    Engineering Manager Process

    Job Objective:

    • The Engineering Manager – Process Engineering is accountable to ensure that the company deploys the appropriate process engineering and design resources to profitably achieve and maintain its objective of becoming the premier mineral processing engineering company internationally.
    • Co-ordination and harmonisation of all process design and process engineering related matters on projects within the detailed engineering execution phase.
    • Provides specific process engineering input to projects with both a line and functional role and reporting responsibility.
    • Ensures the management of all Process Engineering and Process Design aspects on execution phase projects to ensure that process engineering and design is delivered according to project objectives.
    • Develop and implement process engineering and process design systems and applications.
    • Liase and coordinate with the engineering and design systems function regarding the integration of process engineering and design systems with other engineering design systems.
    • Ensure that practices and procedures within Process Engineering and Process Design are implemented and continuously improved and optimised.
    • Ensure that all process lead engineers are planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing out all project process engineering deliverables according to requirements.
    • Provides input to ensuring that technical solutions embody agreed levels of safety, operability, maintainability and constructability.
    • Ensure the project process design and engineering specifications are in compliance with location specific government rules, regulations and statutes.
    • Ensure company Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, manuals and procedures are complied with.
    • Holds accountability for the project process engineering budget and schedule on execution projects.

    Key Responsibilities;

    • Responsible for maintaining consistency of standards and presentation across process engineering design documentation.
    • Responsible for managing process engineering interfaces, with internal resources and with external stakeholders.
    • Provides or coordinates input to the project specific Engineering Execution Plan.
    • Provides or coordinates input to the project specific Basis of Design.
    • Provides or coordinates input to proposal estimates and man plans.
    • Provides or coordinates input to the project process engineering safety in design process.
    • Responsible for ensuring the Process Design Criteria, including interpreting the needs of the client is developed for each project.
    • Responsible for defining and approving of process engineering procedures, work instructions, checklists and guidelines.
    • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating process engineering design, technical and peer reviews.
    • Responsible for implementing preventative and corrective actions relating to process engineering and design performance.
    • Coordinate input to the enquiry, tendering and adjudication phases for major technology unit processes.
    • Ensure the management of process engineering and design resources (time and cost) against budget on projects.
    • Prepare monthly reports highlighting achievements, issues and deviations.
    • Ensure management against schedules, i.e. ability to prioritise and deliver outputs of the process discipline engineers and designers in a timely manner to assist other roles to complete on time.
    • Monitoring and controlling of project level process engineering and process design competency.
    • Ensure that process engineering calculations are performed in accordance with company procedures..
    • Ensure performance of all process engineering discipline engineers and designers meets the desired standards.
    • Monitoring and Managing client expectations and satisfaction levels
    • Ensure process engineering input to commissioning planning
    • To actively pursue excellent Health, Safety and Environmental performance standards and to encourage all process engineering staff to achieve or outperform the indicated HSE KPI’s of the company.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.
    • Registered as a professional engineer or technologist
    • Minimum of 15 years process engineering experience with at least 10 years in the mining and minerals processing area in the EPCM role.

    Desirable:

    • Project Management Formal Qualification
    • Good commercial awareness/risk management skills.
    • Previous experience in a similar position

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • Previous experience as a lead process engineer on execution projects
    • An understanding of technical integration issues across all engineering disciplines
    • Good delegation skills.
    • Good organizational and time management skills
    • An understanding of strategic and change management and an ability to translate this understanding into appropriate action.
    • Ability to problem-solve effectively
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Well-developed computer skills, experience in data centric design processes and systems, knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and engineering programs.
    • Understanding of South African and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and minerals processing sector
    • Site experience in construction and commissioning
