Grade 12 plus Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Physical Science, Biological Science, Geology, Environmental Sciences and Environmental Management as recognised by SAQA. Minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience in land use and infrastructure management, industrial processes, air quality and waste pollution management and the management of NEMA s30 incidents. Successful completion of the Environmental Management Inspector (EMI) training, SAMTRAC or SHERQ, ISO14001 or/and environmental management systems (EMS) will be an added advantage. Valid driver’s license.
COMPETENCES:
Computer Literacy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, particularly with regard to drafting of Directives, Notices legal correspondence and reports. Experience in environmental compliance, compliance inspections and environmental enforcement procedures. Sound understanding of environmental legislation. Good project management, interpersonal, coordination and document management skills.
Duties :
Conduct compliance inspections for all Environmental Authorisations (EAs), Waste Management Licenses (WMLs), Atmospheric Emission Licenses), (AELs) issued by the Department. Attend to the environmental complaints received within the Gauteng province that are related to the EAs issued. Respond to NEMA s30 incidents in Gauteng in terms of Section 30 of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA). Draft effective and legally defensible notices, directives and legal correspondence.
Preparing back to office and site inspection reports for the compliance inspections conducted. Present the findings of the compliance inspections and recommend the appropriate enforcement action(s) where non-compliances have been found. Effectively utilize the information management system to manage the work within the Directorate. The candidate must also submit statistics/reports of work conducted on a monthly and quarterly basis to their immediate supervisors by the 30th of each month.
