    Estimator (Senior Technical Buyer) - Vedanta Gamsberg

    Job purpose: 

    • Execute purchasing transactions for the off-site or on-site repair of equipment, allowing repairs to be completed in a timely and cost-effective way, meeting agreed technical requirements and service levels.

    Key performance areas:

    General

    •  Facilitate the processing of procurement RFQ’s and Purchase Orders.
    •  Issue repair estimate instructions to suppliers.
    •  Compile necessary documentation to remove item to be repaired from site.
    •  Evaluate repair estimate and consult with maintenance teams to agree if items should be repaired.
    •  Convert approved repair estimate to Repair orders in the transactional purchasing system.
    •  Support and provide guidance to maintain records of rotable item condition, maintenance history, and warranty information.
    •  Ensure that procurement and contracting are performing within the Supply Chain Management policy and guidelines.
    •  Formulate supplier strategies to enable effective supplier management in conjunction with the Supply Chain Manager.
    •  Ensure that all reconditioned equipment is repaired according to original specifications and as per agreed terms.
    •  Ensure all equipment reconditioning is timeously completed and that equipment is delivered within agreed timelines and costs.
    •  Deviations or malfunctioning of reconditioned items to be promptly reported and ensure that such items are returned to suppliers immediately and execute warranty claims with suppliers.
    •  Movement & functioning of reconditioned items and equipment are continuously monitored to track
    • performance and availability.
    •  Items and equipment are evaluated by the end-users and declared reconditionable before any reconditioning steps are implemented.
    •  Stock deviations are investigated to ensure efficient stock levels.
    •  Manage external reconditioning at suppliers.
    •  Assist end-users with warranty claims and provide expert advice.
    •  Expedite outstanding RFQ’s and purchase orders with suppliers.
    •  Ensure necessary PODs are obtained and submitted to suppliers.
    •  Track all late orders as priority and continuously to ensure deliveries are made as planned.
    •  Track, communicate and confirm deliveries for emergencies/breakdowns with end-users.
    •  Make transport arrangements for urgent recon spares to and from suppliers.
    •  Ensure that normal and abnormal recon spares transportation to and from the mine is initiated and coordinated with the end-user, suppliers, colleagues, and transport contractor.
    •  Optimize transport arrangements and needs with the expeditor and transport contractor.
    •  Arrange the collection of special/large equipment at suppliers to eliminate excessive handling.
    •  Communicate special instructions to expeditor and transport contractor with regards to sensitive spares, to prevent damages.

    Communication

    •  Communicate and provide information by relevant internal and external methods to assist and enable organisational operations and effectively service connecting groups.
    •  Maintain positive and effective interaction with all team members to reach objectives.
    •  Sustain and manage communication in accordance with TAU Mining Communication procedures. Reports
    •  Compile, check and distribute accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports within stipulated deadlines.

    Minimum Job requirements:

    •  Matric (Grade 12)
    •  Technical qualification (Artisan or similar) preferred plus,
    •  Certificate in Procurement and Supply Chain Management (advantageous)
    •  Must have at least 3 – 5 years’ technical purchasing and supply chain management experience within in the Mining environment.
    •  Warehouse knowledge and experience preferred.
    •  Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control Training (HIRAC)
    •  Valid code EB drivers’ license
    •  Clean criminal record

    Knowledge, Attitude, Skills & Abilities:

    •  Technical skills and excellent knowledge of routable components and component life cycle planning as applicable to heavy earthmoving equipment.
    •  Computer literacy, i.e. Pastel Evolution/ Word / Excel / PowerPoint. Pragma.
    •  Communication Skills, Oral and Written.
    •  Advanced Negotiation Skills.
    •  Ability to function under pressure.
    •  Business operations knowledge.
