    Finance Manager: Business Controls

    Job purpose

    The role performs and or supervises reviews concentrating on the high-risk areas of British American Tobacco South Africa, against the applicable Risk and Controls Matrix, as defined. The objective is to provide Management with information, facilitation and advice to ensure an appropriate balance of RISK and CONTROL within the organisation with particular focus on compliance to the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. It will further promote an awareness of control and risk throughout the business.

    Principal accountabilities

    • Supervise and conduct independent operational process reviews to help ensure that the systems and procedures support the achievement appropriate compliance to SOx documentation and evidence requirements, in line with the RACM.
    • Develop, review and update operational guidelines applicable to control operators and control owners for the execution of relevant risk & control requirements.
    • Prepare written reports for senior management that clearly and accurately explain the findings and action plans for improvement.
    • Provide training for the operating companies' management and process owners to raise the awareness of SOx evidence requirements, RACM updates & required control evidence to be maintained.
    • Evaluate system information and IPE; develop documentation to support against best practice evidence documentation criteria
    • Liaison with Business Controls Team to document and agree plans to update and or remediate any particular Design and Implementation requirements of the control environment.
    • Develop and drive efficiency improvements, based on best practice and in line with group standardisation.
    • Deliver full scale awareness across the business on Risk & Controls, SOx and company policies and procedures on an ongoing basis.
    • Whilst the predominant focus of the role will be within the Control Environment, the incumbent will be required to support the Corporate Finance Controller and/or Finance Managers with project related work in Financial Management as required.
       

    Requirements

    • A postgraduate degree with Accounting would be required (i.e. M+4).
    • Qualification and/or eligibility for membership as Chartered Accountant (or similar designation)
    • A robust understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards, Management Accounting principles and Internal Control over Financial Reporting
    • Proven (with references) experience with SOx Environment
    • A minimum of 3 years relevant financial experience in a Controlling or Audit related Finance environment (Big 4 and/or International Auditing experience advantageous).
    • Proven project management skills - able to work independently and maintain level of independence whilst working in partnership with the Head Office Finance team.
       

    Desired /Additional Experience

    • Exposure to SAP environment and BPC Financial Reporting with a strong working knowledge of IT Systems
    • Exposure to and/or functional knowledge of FMCG business processes within a multinational organisation.
    • Possess excellent influencing and communications skills with ability to interact with all levels of senior management.
    • A commercial approach to all activities which requires constant questioning and challenging of the conventional practices.
