Financial Accountant at Cape Town Fish Market

We are looking for a recently qualified Accountant for the Cape Town Fish Market Head Office situated in Table View, Cape Town. 

This is a 6-month fixed terms position (maternity fill)

The successful candidate must have good communication skills and effective time management.

Key responsibilities

• Processing on Pastel to Trail Balance / Balance Sheet and Income statement
• Additional bookkeeping duties as designated by management
• Overseeing daily processing (Bank reconciliations / Tax Invoices / Supplier invoices)
• Overseeing Debtors and Creditors reconciliation
• Petty cash and credit cards management
• Maintenance of fixed asset registers
• Maintain inter-company recharges and reconciliations
• Controlling inter-company loan accounts
• Capturing of payroll expenses and journalising of payroll entries
• Completion of Statutory Returns (VAT, PAYE, Provisional Tax and or any other) as well as the calculation thereof
• Debt reporting to management
• Projections and budget planning
• Monthly management accounts
• Inventory basic control knowledge
• Mid-month and monthly cash flow calculations
• Loading payments, keeping track of bank balances
• Processing of monthly and audit journals
• Preparation and assistance with the annual external audit
• Assisting the Group Financial Manager with monthly reporting
• Guides accounting clerical staff, coordinating activities and answering questions
• Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Cross training on the same position level might require additional task than mentioned above.

Minimum requirements 

• SAIPA / AGA / ACCA qualification 
• 3-5 years accounting or audit experience
• Completed articles (SAIPA or similar)
• Advanced Pastel knowledge 
• Pilot knowledge (advantageous) 
• Highly computer literate including Outlook, Word, Excel & SARS efiling 
• Can work independently as well as in a team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Attention to detail 
• Ability to work with little supervision in a fast pace environment and to deadlines
• Ability to prioritise and multi-task 
• System orientated 
• Willingness to learn and develop 
• Energetic individual 
• Valid driver’s license & own transport
