    General Manager - eThekwini (Durban)

    Key Performance Areas:

    Operational:

    • Set service levels are at optimal levels
    • Optimal utilization of company assets
    • Company assets are maintained and safeguarded at all times
    • Compliance with all relevant legislation
    • Completion of external and internal reporting requirements and attendance at relevant meetings
    • External awareness of the general business environment and best practices being adapted/applied to current/new business

    Strategic Management:

    • Develop and implement a strategic business plan (SBP) and financial budget for the Business Unit that aligns with that of the company
    • Develop a culture of all staff being client-centric

    Financial Management:

    • Manage revenue trends at various levels and drive agreed growth strategies
    • Continual drive on costs management through continuous improvement strategies
    • Analyse, interpret, and report on monthly income statements of the various operations within the business unit
    • Compile annual budgets and present them to the Board of Directors 
    • Review daily revenue reports and other relevant operational reports to remain informed and take action when required
    • Provide input into management meetings

    Human Resources Management:

    • Attain, train, and retain suitable management and staff that will ensure the success of the business unit
    • Drive regular performance management reviews for staff assessment and development
    • Demonstrate leadership and motivational skills
    • Mentor and coach subordinates and monitor performance to maximise productivity
    • Ensure sound relations are maintained with relevant unions and shop stewards

    Manage discipline and conflict resolution in the workplace standards and measure compliance of the following:  

    • Service levels are at optimal levels
    • Optimal utilization of company assets
    • Company assets are maintained and safeguarded at all times
    • Compliance with all systems, policies, and procedures
    • Compliance with all relevant legislation
    • Completion of external and internal reporting requirements and attendance at relevant meetings
    • External awareness of the general business environment and best practices being adapted/applied to current/new business

    Inherent Requirements    

    • ESSENTIAL:  Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain/Operations Management/Logistics
    • At least 5-8 years of operational management experience with 5 years senior management responsibilities within a freight/supply chain or logistics environment specifically in PETRO-CHEMICAL/CHEMICAL/DANGEROUS GOODS
    • A strong transport and warehouse operational experience
    • Previous experience with a WMS or SAP is a distinct advantage
    • ESSENTIAL: Previous budgeting and cost control experience
    • Candidates must have excellent leadership skills and must demonstrate a management style that is strongly focused on efficiencies and compliance
    • Thorough knowledge of the operational system, policies, and procedures
    • Computer literacy:  MS Office
    • Aptitude to working with IT systems
    • Working knowledge of relevant IR legislation, Bargaining Council agreement/policies/procedures
    • Working knowledge of relevant technical requirements of material handling equipment, fleet and warehouses
    • Knowledge and awareness of developments and trends within the logistics field
    • Ability to compile a strategic business plan and financial budget
    • Ability to interpret financial information
    • Report writing and presentation skills
    • Continuous improvement to drive cost and improve customer experience
