MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To manage the Commercial Development Banking Region and provide leadership to ensure that key strategic objectives are met. Is responsible for adopting and optimising a best fit operational model with the appropriate finance, governance and risk framework and controls, and ensure alignment with the Bank's guidelines, policies and legislation. Needs to lead and drive the business growth and build positive returns of the Commercial Development Banking segment (from emerging commercial farmers to existing medium and large commercial farmer markets) at a regional level Required to embed efficient processes and customer service standards in order to improve the experiences of customers in the area of responsibility as well as establish and maintain effective partner and stakeholder relationships to leverage support and enable the implementation of the customer value proposition for the Commercial Development Banking customer segment.
Key Performance Areas
Implementation of an effective Commercial Development Banking (CDB) operating model
- Develop the operational plan annually to achieve contracted / targeted growth
- Implement the operational plan through provincial managers and ensure alignment at Regional level
- Reviews and monitors the execution of the Operational Plan, identifies deviations and issues and adjusts accordingly
- Reports on achievement and progress on the Operational quarterly
Business Growth and Delivery of Value Proposition
- Drive growth of the Commercial Development Banking segment (from emerging commercial farmers to existing medium and large commercial farmer markets) at a regional level.
- Develop and execute integrated sales, relationship, and portfolio growth strategies that are aligned with the business plan to achieve targets and other agreed objectives at Regional level.
- Ensure that the appropriate quality of business is procured for the Region
Development Impact Mandate
- Define annual development impact targets and implement the agreed plan for the Region in support of the Bank’s development mandate.
- Manage Intermediary wholesale oriented solutions/ projects in the Region.
- Identify, facilitate and manage High impact agricultural development projects in the Region.
Customer Value and Stakeholder Management
- Deliver the agreed component of the CDB’s customer value proposition in the Region.
- Create a strong customer service culture, fostering an environment in which the Region (and Provincial Offices) work together to achieve all customer standards in the scorecard goals.
- Drive efforts in the Region to identify and implement service behaviours that improve the overall customer experience.
- Resolve escalated customer complaints/issues promptly and effectively.
- Establish and maintain effective relations with identified key partners to enhance the impact of the development outcome.
- Manage the relationship between the Bank and its SLA Partners in support of a coordinated effort for growth, financial sustainability and development impact in the Region.
Financial Sustainability
- Drive the achievement of agreed financial sustainability and profitability plan for the Region.
- Manage appropriate pricing and financial returns on transactions, in accordance with the prevailing organisational strategic objectives
Governance, Risk and Compliance Enablement
- Provide input into the formulation of policies, systems, processes and procedures to promote operational excellence.
- Make the necessary procedure amendments in line with changes to bank wide policy.
- Ensure compliance to guidelines, policies and objectives
- Ensure the alignment of the Delegation of Powers with the necessary procedure amendments in the area of responsibility.
- Ensure that exposure with respect to applications granted at provincial level are managed and the interests of the Bank are protected.
- Ensure action and resolve on all audit findings and queries.
- Identify risks and ensure the development and upkeep of a robust risk register

- Determine the human resource requirements, in accordance with the expected deliverables and current capacity

Financial Management
- Develop and manage budget
- Manage expenditure and ensure no fruitless expenditure
- Adhere to financial guidelines and thus ensure proper control over expenditure

Preferred Minimum Education and Experience
- 4 Year Degree in Commerce, Business Management, or other relevant and equivalent qualification in Banking and Financial Services
- 6-10 years experience in Development Finance or Commercial Banking environment
- 6-10 years experience at managerial level which includes a role in customer-facing profit making business units:
- 5 years experience in an Agricultural business environment
- 5 years banking or Commercial environment experience
- 5 years Senior Managerial level experience
