General Manager - Sustainability - JHB at Nando's

Requirements:

• Experience (Minimum Experience Required) Minimum
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a management role — ideally within a consumer/hospitality, retail, or FMCG environment.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in sustainability, ESG— ideally within a consumer/hospitality, retail, or FMCG environment.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing sustainability strategies with measurable business and social impact.
• Demonstrated experience in ESG reporting and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of South Africa’s socio-economic, environmental, and regulatory landscape.
• 1-2 years additional experience in the food/franchise industry

Position Description

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute Nando’s South Africa’s Sustainability Strategy, aligned with global commitments and local realities.
• Shape and deliver the sustainability agenda across all business functions.
• Represent Nando’s SA on regional and global sustainability forums, ensuring alignment with the Nando’s Group while leading locally relevant action.
• Translate sustainability goals into clear operational outcomes with measurable impact and transparent reporting.

Environmental Stewardship

• Lead initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, water use, energy consumption, and waste across restaurants and supply chains.
• Drive the shift towards renewable energy, circular packaging, and sustainable restaurant design.
• Partner with environmental organisations and innovators to champion biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, and waste-to-value projects.

Ethical and Sustainable Supply Chain

• Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement teams to embed ethical sourcing and sustainability standards across all suppliers.
• Promote local supplier development and resilience, aligned to B-BBEE and inclusive growth principles.
• Integrate sustainability and ethics into supplier audits, onboarding, and performance metrics.

Social Impact and Transformation

• Drive alignment to B-BBEE objectives through enterprise, supplier, and socio-economic development initiatives that have heart and impact.

Governance, Ethics, and Reporting

• Ensure compliance with ESGand environmental legislation, as well as Nando’s internal governance frameworks.
• Lead transparent and engaging sustainability reporting for internal and external stakeholders
• (Annual Reports, ESG disclosures, and brand storytelling).
• Uphold Nando’s ethical standards, championing responsible business conduct in every decision and partnership.

Leadership and Culture

• Inspire and lead a high-performing sustainability team and cross-functional champions.
• Build capability and ownership across departments so that every Nandoca plays a part in a sustainable future.
• Communicate with authenticity, humour, and passion — in the true Nando’s style.
• Foster a culture where doing good and doing well go hand in hand.
