    Group Climate Change & Nature Principal

    Role Details

    Gold Fields is currently seeking a Group Climate Change and Nature Principal to join the Group Sustainable Development team. Reporting to the Vice President Climate Change and Environment, this role is responsible for providing input into the development of the Group climate change and nature strategies, policies and programmes that promote sustainable development throughout the mining lifecycle.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Provide input into the development of the group and regional climate change and nature strategies by anticipating issues, challenges, and risks. Support their integration into the global business
    • Responsible for the update and roll-out of group policies and guidelines aligned to the group strategy. Provide administrative and leadership support to the Climate Change Steering Committee
    • Keep abreast of regulatory and industry trends in climate change and nature to guide responses to address these trends, as well as participate in relevant industry working groups
    • Assist the regions on key technical matters related to climate change and nature and facilitate regional dialogues and knowledge sharing
    • Identify climate change and nature risks and opportunities and lead and co-ordinate efforts to mitigate and optimise them
    • Monitor and report quarterly and annual performance against the group energy and climate change and nature performance requirements. Keep abreast of and adopt latest innovations, systems, and technologies pertaining to data management to enable the provision of data integrity, accuracy, and efficiency.
    • Quality control and technical review of regional climate change and nature reporting to the executive and the Board Safety, Health and Sustainable Development (SH&SD) Committee

    Key factors to your success include:

    • Honours degree in environmental science or a related sustainable development field
    • A proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in climate change and/or nature
    • Knowledge of environmental management key issues and best practices
    • Experience in climate change systems and nature - standards, policies and procedures, internal and external reporting, risk and impact identification and management, KPIs and management dashboard
    • Broad and in-depth experience in areas of environmental management, particularly climate change and nature, including environmental impact assessment, operations, project evaluation and M&A
    • Experience in collaborating with other functions to integrate climate change and nature into business management systems and processes
