    Head of Development Assets

    ERG Africa invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Head of Development Assets and M&A. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Executive Office and be based at our offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be required to drive and support our work on maximization of the value of Non-Core Assets through assets development and further M&A, providing independent advice to the CEO of ERG Africa on related critical decisions, defending proposed strategies/ decisions at Group Management level

    Primary Purpose

    Implementation of a package of measures for ongoing M&A projects

    • He/She is responsible for the work unit entrusted by the Management for the implementation of the M&A projects, including cross-functional alignment and coordination, the organization of the Project Management Office for separate projects, development of the enterprise value maximization strategy (e.g. investments into asset development to maximize sale value, understanding greenfield project development cycles from Technical and mining regulations sides), performing/ coordinating vendor due diligence, organizing visits of investors to enterprises (the whole range of tasks from preparation presentations directly to logistics), participation in negotiations with key investors.

    Interaction with external contractors

    • Builds and develops relationships with external partners (financial advisers, asset valuation consultants, consulting and audit companies, etc.), coordinates their activities and is responsible for the quality of the work they have done before the management of the Company

    Project activities

    • He/She is responsible for the organization of work and coordination of the team in its functional area within the framework of complex projects of the Group along with other functional leaders.

    Management and staff development

    • Formulates and monitors key performance indicators for its subordinates; ensures the implementation of policies, regulations and communication of strategic priorities for the development of the Company’s business, agrees on appointments, ensures the creation of a productive working climate in a managed team and the development of skills, the effective use of human resources and building competencies, in order to create and maintain the necessary conditions

    Hands on oversight of non-core assets management/ development

    • Oversee the management of the non-core assets in relation to technical and support functions, manage planned asset development and maintenance activities, budget planning and execution

    Manage key stakeholders

    • Oversee projects progress and follow-up with initiatives/ tasks owners (Technical/legal/finance teams and other relevant stakeholders) and challenge the workplan/progress and implementation of the initiatives according to agreed schedule and budget

    Communicating to the Region and Group Management

    • Informing on key developments and searching for decision-making where appropriate

    Minimum Requirements  

    • Masters degree, preferably in Economics/Finance/Management/Project Management
    • Top-tier strategy consulting/ large scale project management (preferably in mining) / business planning. Experience in M&A  deals or Private Equity.
    • At least 5 years’ relevant experience 
    • At least 3 years’ management experience with at least 2 direct subordinates 

    Professional qualifications and skills necessary for the performance of duties

    • Extensive knowledge in the field of business, fairly deep understanding of the various functional blocks
    • Skills in investment analysis of projects and assets
    • Knowledge of best practices in project management (e/g/ (PMBOK or Prince2 certification) and detailed implementation planning skills
    • Technical knowledge in mining project development cycles and relevant regulation
    • Financial and investment appraisal capabilities across a variety of project and initiative types
    • Problem-solving skillset
    • New project development (concept to execution)
    • Performance management techniques including KPI development and adherence
    • Senior level communication skills at an Executive level
    • Conflict Resolution
    • Ability to network, maintain and manage relationships at a C-suite level
    • Development skills for less experienced management consultants
