    Head of Editorial / Content + Creative Studio

    Purpose of the Role:

    This role is key to the creative and communication output of the Superbalist brand. The Head of Content works closely with the CMO, the Head of Brand and Head of Retail to continuously evolve, define and communicate Superbalist’s, identity of being the #1 fashion retailer in South Africa. This role is pivotal in the development and leadership of the customer-centric content strategy and owns the innovation, creativity, opex, analytics, technology and KPI’s across engagement-based; content marketing.

    The primary functions and deliverables of the role include, but are not limited to:

    Content Strategy + Brand 

    • Brand Identity - Work with the CMO/ Head of Brand to manifest the overarching marketing strategy across all the BTL channels 
    • Digitally Optimised Content - Develop and oversee implementation of a sound, customer-centric, digital content strategy with optimised frequency
    • Merchandising - Work with retail to ensure the product offering is surfaced and communicated in the right place and the right time, for the right customer.
    • Creative Guidelines - Develop, oversee and maintain creative guidelines across all departments to ensure cohesion and consistency for the brand

    Content Creation + Production

    • Campaign Management - Own the editorial and content calendar and manage key campaigns across all departments in line with brand guidelines whilst ensuring that all communication supports the broader business strategy and, through collaboration with the creative teams, effectively convert retail and trading messages into customer relevant, fashion-credible campaigns/stories.
    • Collaborate with the Brand team to develop and implement cross-functional marketing campaigns to ensure maximum reach on key messages.
    • CRM - work with the CRM team to ensure all email communication is in line with the Superbalist brand
    • Sponsored Content - Work with the Sponsored Content Manager to conceptualize content proposals to third party brands and ensure that all partnership content is true to the Superbalist brand guidelines for brand consistency

    Management /Operations

    • Finance + Ops - Manage and develop annual content budgets
    • External contributors - Manage and advance relationships with contributors, agencies and external creative teams
    • Campaign Performance reporting
    • Resource planning
    • Leadership/Supervisory Role - Lead the editorial/ content and creative department and oversee all brand marketing activities, defining the departmental vision and the working culture.

    Key requirements: 

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 5-6 years of experience in a leadership role within fashion publishing and content strategy..
    • It is preferable that the candidate have an understanding of major fashion retailer environments. 
    • Experience in managing large creative teams.

    Key competencies:

    • Experience in film, photography, styling direction.
    • A visual and verbal communication expert, including the ownership of progress reports, performance reports, and project/strategic proposal
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Understanding of current catwalk trends and commercial fashion trends and how these relate to the Superbalist customer
    • Genuine passion for popular culture including fashion, music, events, people.
    • A solid understanding of online visual merchandising.
    • Calm under pressure, natural leader.
    • Must be able to lead a team, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Operational efficiency: experienced multi-tasker, calm under pressure with strong organisational skills
    • Skilled in Excel with proven experience and ownership of budgets and planning
    • Tech-savvy, a keen interest and competency in content-related technology, software and social media best practices
    • Understanding of the legal, rights management and regulatory landscape of content production
    • Driven and willing to roll up your sleeves, take on new assignments, and juggle many things at once. Exceptionally strong multi-tasker.
    • Excellent communication skills, both in written and verbal including the ownership of progress reports, performance reports, and project/strategic proposal
    • People skills, this position is highly interactive demanding the individual be highly relatable, easy to engage with, building strong relationships with colleagues, partners and the media.
