Infrastructure Delivery Installation Technician, Infrastructure Delivery

    Description

    • AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running.
    • We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
    • You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
    • We have an exciting opportunity for an ID Install Technician at our Cape Town data center cluster. This is an entry-level position and a unique chance to work in one of the most innovative and fast-paced data centers in the world.
    • The Infrastructure Delivery (ID) team is responsible for the physical deployment and scaling of new data center infrastructure. As part of this team, you will be primarily tasked with installing cabling and new racks within the data center. You must be able to perform repetitive tasks and adhere to standard processes and best practices.
    • You will work in a collaborative team environment and must be able to communicate effectively and support cross-team functionality.

    Key job responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Adhere to security and safety best practices in the data center
    • Installation and testing of copper and Fiber Optic cabling
    • Basic build and troubleshooting of network devices
    • Creating/attaching labels and barcodes
    • Managing inventory of related materials
    • Adhering to defined escalation processes and standard operating procedures
    • Use of internal workflow tools to track, update and complete work requests
    • Working across multiple data center sites when required

    Physical Requirements:

    • This position has a physical component and may require working in cramped spaces or elevated locations
    • Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with regulations)
    • Regularly work at heights and from ladders
    • Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions

    A day in the life

    • You start by checking your work queue and picking up rack installation tasks for the day. Most of your time is spent on the data center floor — running cables, installing racks, and testing connections.
    • You'll track your progress using digital tools and flag issues as they come up. Beyond the daily installs, you'll contribute to continuous improvement projects and help plan and coordinate incoming rack schedules.
    • Some days bring unexpected challenges that need quick thinking. You'll work closely with your teammates and move between sites when needed. No two days are exactly the same.
