    Insect Rearing Unit Supervisor - Durban (53294)

    Job Description

    • South African Sugarcane Research Institute(SASRI) a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for an Insect Rearing Unit Supervisor based in Mount Edgecombe.
    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing the production and supply of high-quality insects of any life stage, in the numbers required, and to undertake applied research of insect rearing practices.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Monitoring and maintaining Quality Control (QC) of all insect life stages
    • Responsible for managing all hygiene practices throughout the IRU
    • In conjunction with the Research Entomologist, developing new routine insect-rearing methods and quality control procedures for all life stages reared as well as managing staff, facility, and apparatus requirements
    • Training of new staff, students and interns in routine procedures and rearing methods to ensure they understand and implement the standard operating procedures and rearing methods
    • Procuring for the IRU and related research projects all specialised consumables and equipment using the SASA Procurement online system
    • Assisting with the preparation and management of IRU budgets

    Minimum Requirements:
