    Insect Rearing Unit Supervisor - Durban (53294)

    Job Description

    • South African Sugarcane Research Institute(SASRI) a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for an Insect Rearing Unit Supervisor based in Mount Edgecombe.
    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing the production and supply of high-quality insects of any life stage, in the numbers required, and to undertake applied research of insect rearing practices.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Monitoring and maintaining Quality Control (QC) of all insect life stages
    • Responsible for managing all hygiene practices throughout the IRU
    • In conjunction with the Research Entomologist, developing new routine insect-rearing methods and quality control procedures for all life stages reared as well as managing staff, facility, and apparatus requirements
    • Training of new staff, students and interns in routine procedures and rearing methods to ensure they understand and implement the standard operating procedures and rearing methods
    • Procuring for the IRU and related research projects all specialised consumables and equipment using the SASA Procurement online system
    • Assisting with the preparation and management of IRU budgets

    • This new BI Specialist role at head office will report to the BI Manager and is designed to grow into a strategic partner in driving data-driven decision-making across the business

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Champion systems use and train users to ensure accurate data feeds into the BI platform
    • Conduct business and systems analysis to unlock value from existing resources
    • Support development and maintenance of the BI platform, including ETL, data modelling, database analysis and dashboard/report development
    • Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for management
    • Troubleshoot data and system issues to ensure reliability and accuracy
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to align BI outputs with operational and strategic needs

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education and Experience:

    • Matric plus a relevant tertiary qualification
    • 5+ years' experience in data management and BI environments
    • Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English
    • A self-starter with initiative, strong administrative aptitude and the ability to work independently under pressure
    • Disciplined, detail-oriented and focused on accuracy and reliability
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to production units (farms and pack houses) across the Western Cape

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • BI Tools: Qlik Sense SaaS or Qlik Sense Enterprise / QlikView (essential), Microsoft Power BI (advantageous)
    • Industry Systems: Farm Costing Solutions (Crest wages and Farm Manager), Paltrack (packing, logistics, fruit accounting), Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) (finance), Google Earth Pro

    Shift Setter - Blow moulding (49108)

    Job Description

    A leading manufacturing client within the FMCG industry is looking for a Shift Setter for their Pinetown/Queensburgh branch. The person will be responsible for the following:

    • Assisting in achieving a production efficiency of 85%
    • Assisting in ensuring that raw material wastage levels are maintained below 1.5% of material used
    • Setting machines according to the best practices
    • Conducting mould and material trails as required
    • Reporting and assisting with machine and mould maintenance requirements
    • Ensuring that machinery and moulds are effectively maintained, serviced and stored 
    • Ensuring top quality products are produced
    • Practicing a high standard of housekeeping and safety
    • Attend to call outs on breakdowns

    Basic Minimum Requirements:

    • Matric
    • Minimum N3 mechanical/electrical or higher preferred
    • Mechanical or electrical aptitude
    • At least 3 years' experience in a FMCG production environment
    • Being exposed to blow moulding
    • Setting and/or mechanical experience is essential
    • Must be able to work shifts
    • Have own transport is essential
