Intermediate Software Engineer (SE3) at Prodigy Finance

What are the key responsibilities of the role?

• Develop and maintain frontend features for our web applications, with a primary focus on React components.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to create seamless and intuitive user experiences.
• Review code changes and coordinate deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
• Assist in architectural decision-making and technical problem resolution.
• Take ownership of coding projects from conception to release, ensuring high quality and timely delivery.

What would the ideal candidate be great at?

• Technical competence: love coding, able to learn new paradigms quickly and look to continuously improve and find better ways of doing things;
• Coding and creating with front-end technologies - HTML, CSS and Javascript on the front-end;
• Experience with an OO language such as Python / Ruby and building and querying REST APIs;
• Understanding the importance of writing clean code and code testing;
• Keeping UI in mind when building and designing;
• Teamwork and team spirit; be more motivated by the achievements of the whole team;
• Getting up to the front of the bus; get stuck in, execute, generate ideas, have an impact, don’t just sit back and be a passenger;
• Attention to detail – you want to make things look good!

Qualifications and experience

• At least 3+ years experience in web development;
• Strong proficiency in frontend development technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a focus on React;
• Experience with object-oriented languages such as Python or Ruby, and building and consuming RESTful APIs;
• Familiarity with writing clean, well-tested code and maintaining UI/UX standards;
• Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile environment, integrating with backend APIs and contributing to team objectives;
• Excellent attention to detail and a passion for crafting visually appealing interfaces.

Experience that would be nice to have (but we’ll trade off if everything else fits)

• Familiarity with state management libraries such as Redux;
• Familiarity with backend development, particularly with Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks;
• Ideally, you are language agnostic and eager to try out new languages as needed;
• Experience working in a highly collaborative team;
• Start-up experience. Sometimes the earth moves beneath your feet at Prodigy Finance, so you've got to be comfortable with ambiguity, able to wear lots of hats, and adapt easily as we continue to grow.
