Role
#Keready’s mission is to provide accessible and affordable mobile health services to the youth in South Africa whilst running a movement that speaks frankly about health issues facing young people. Mobile outreach services proved effective during Covid-19 with over a million people reached with vaccinations in informal settlements and rural areas. The Keready campaign was likewise effective in encouraging many young people to get vaccinated. By providing 46 mobile health clinics for outreach, this model will now be used to reach other young people and extend the package of primary health services available to them.
This project is made possible through a grant to the Department of Health from the Federal Republic of Germany. DGMT, a South African foundation, is the project implementer, working with the provincial departments of Health in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
DGMT would like to recruit individuals who are passionate about extending health care to underserved communities, focused on young people.
DGMT is looking to appoint a young doctor (< 35 years and ex-community service) who is willing to engage with other young people on social media, radio, at schools and in communities, wherever young people are – young people want to hear about health issues from young doctors. There are ten young doctors in Keready who make up the team. We wish to appoint a young doctor to be contracted from now until September 2024. They will lead the work of the Keready Communicators and Mobilisers and support the implementation of the project and activities aimed at driving demand for the efficient and effective execution of the mobile outreach services. The role requires a doctor who is also a strong communicator and who has a good understanding of the needs in the community and a passion for working with young people and marginalised communities.
