Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• A relevant Master’s degree (e.g. MA Applied Linguistics, M.ED Language Education, MA Language Practice, MA TESOL).
• At least 2 years’ relevant experience in Higher Education, including teaching academic literacy
• Relevant experience in student support and development.
• Ability to teach in English, as well as isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

• Provide academic literacy support and development to students. Offer workshops and teach academic literacy to students.
• Develop academic literacy materials and sources for use by students and staff.
• Assist academic staff to integrate academic staff to integrate academic literacy into their subjects and programmes. Conduct research and publish on academic literacy.
• Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the department. Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies.
• Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
• Contribute to new student orientation.
