KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning:

• Conduct classes and maintain multimodal teaching facilities
• Prepare study guides and
• Identify teaching material
• Prepare assessments in line with NWU and FHUM T&L Policies.

Research and Supervision:

• Supervise post-graduate students as per the available load.
• Produce academic scientifically sound research for publication in DHET accredited journals.
• Attend and present at reputable academic conferences, seminars and webinars.

Community Engagement:

• Participation in departmental and faculty community engagement projects. 
• Active participation in the higher education community, both within the university and with external stakeholders.

Minimum requirements

• A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in International Relations, or Foreign Policy, Diplomacy Peace and Conflict Studies.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ lecturing experience. 

RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

• Membership with the African Association of Political Science (AAPS) / South African Association of Political Studies (SAAPS).
• Currently registered for a PhD in International Relations or any of the fields mentioned above. Proof of registration must be submitted.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

• Possesses three years of post-qualification experience at the University level in areas of teaching and learning.
• Possess a specialist knowledge demonstrated in academic area of the core knowledge relating International Relations in order to teach and support learning on International Relations courses modules.
• Practical administrative experience and experience in teaching of Foreign Policy/ International Political Economy will be an added advantage.
• Possess evidence of scholarship as attested to by publications (at least four journal articles) in academic journals in the field of International Relations.
• Possess post-graduate supervision experience at of Honours and master level.  Supervision of PhD students would serve as an advantage.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

• Evidence of publication in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
• Teaching of honours and undergraduate students as well as the Supervision of honours research projects.
• Projecting the good image of the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders.
