    Lecturer (Permanent)/Junior Lecturer (5-year Contract): Emergency Medical Sciences

    Job Purpose

    The purpose is to support the Head with lecturing to students and assess various subjects in the Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care (BEMC). The job purpose is to facilitate the delivery of the BEMC programme and perform all related academic, research and administrative tasks associated with the Department.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Minimum requirements for Lecturer:

    • A Masters in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent.
    • Registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP).
    • A minimum of two years’ clinical experience as an ECP and/or two years’ experience in higher education.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in medical rescue training.

    Minimum requirements for Junior Lecturer:

    • A BTech or Bachelors degree in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent.
    • Registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP).

    Recommendations for Junior Lecturer:

    • Current Masters registration in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent with ethics approval.
    • A minimum of two years clinical experience as an ECP and/or two years’ experience in higher education.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in medical rescue training.
    • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
    • Contribute to the research, design, development & review of teaching & learning, curriculum development and institutional development policies.
    • Develops learning material and course content to ensure continuity in relevance and maintenance of quality.
    • Provide and facilitate teaching and learning and assessment.
    • Engages in continuous academic development.
    • Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs.
    • Involvement in community engagement programmes.
    • Participate in academic administration e.g. contribute to student admissions, timetabling, examinations.
    • Carries out allocated tasks & projects with team members.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities within the department.
    • Perform other functions as may be assigned to by the Head of Department.

    Competencies

    • Proficient in all aspects of emergency medical care and academic activities related to higher education
    • Technical/professional knowledge and skills
    • Knowledge and understanding of the latest technology and development in the field of Emergency Medical Care
    • Excellent command of the English language and communication
    • Good interpersonal and high-level presentation and facilitation skills
    • Good organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work in a team as well as work independently
    • Strong learner focus and adaptability
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite
    • Good administrative skills
    • A quality orientated work ethic
