    Lecturer (Permanent)/Junior Lecturer (5-year Contract): Emergency Medical Sciences

    Job Purpose

    The purpose is to support the Head with lecturing to students and assess various subjects in the Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care (BEMC). The job purpose is to facilitate the delivery of the BEMC programme and perform all related academic, research and administrative tasks associated with the Department.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Minimum requirements for Lecturer:

    • A Masters in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent.
    • Registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP).
    • A minimum of two years’ clinical experience as an ECP and/or two years’ experience in higher education.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in medical rescue training.

    Minimum requirements for Junior Lecturer:

    • A BTech or Bachelors degree in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent.
    • Registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP).

    Recommendations for Junior Lecturer:

    • Current Masters registration in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent with ethics approval.
    • A minimum of two years clinical experience as an ECP and/or two years’ experience in higher education.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in medical rescue training.
    • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
    • Contribute to the research, design, development & review of teaching & learning, curriculum development and institutional development policies.
    • Develops learning material and course content to ensure continuity in relevance and maintenance of quality.
    • Provide and facilitate teaching and learning and assessment.
    • Engages in continuous academic development.
    • Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs.
    • Involvement in community engagement programmes.
    • Participate in academic administration e.g. contribute to student admissions, timetabling, examinations.
    • Carries out allocated tasks & projects with team members.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities within the department.
    • Perform other functions as may be assigned to by the Head of Department.

    Senior IT Technician

    Job Purpose

    • Offer Technical support on the management of the institutional learning Management System (LMS) and
    • Support Academic lecturing staff on the correct pedagogical use of Technology for Teaching and Learning in the Learner Management System (LMS).

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Minimum requirements:

    • A BTech Degree in Information Technology or equivalent qualification.
    • At least three (3) years' IT work experience in the installation and maintenance of Microsoft Servers (or similar) and SQL.
    • Databases and/or IT application development experience.
    • Experience in the use of Blackboard/WebCT or equivalent Learner Management System (LMS) at a Higher Education Institution.

    Recommendations:

    • Sound higher educational environment understanding.
    • Experience in Big Data management and data analytics.
    • Excellent computer management and server skills in a Microsoft or similar environment.
    • Ability to do automated server scripts for data transfers.
    • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
    • Do database maintenance and administration of the CPUT LMS.

    • Work directly with CTS to improve the student experience with the LMS (diagnostic and design of solutions).
    • Network knowledge, especially with respect to system integration.
    • Report writing on user usage of all educational technologies applied.
    • Investigate, explore and integrate alternative and emerging technologies for HE T&L.
    • Design and develop software for integration of technologies for teaching and learning.

    Maritime Instructor X2

    Job Purpose

    Instructing on the Short Learning Programmes (SLP’s) offered by Survival Centre

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • National Diploma: Maritime Studies or other Maritime Related academic qualification.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant industry (seagoing) experience in the merchant navy (as an officer)
    • Or Offshore experience (Oil & Gas) will be recognised as seagoing experience (As an officer, safety officer or OIM)
    • experience with accreditation processes e.g. SAMSA, OPITO, GWO
    • Audit experience- ISO, SAMSA, SANS, SABS

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Instructing and assessing in short learning programmes (SLP’s) offered by the CPUT: Survival Centre, in particular.
    • General course preparation and administration,
    • Assist with safety management & quality assurance,
    • Assist with accreditation of courses.
    • Assist with the maintenance of lifeboats, life rafts, and CPUT: SC facilities.
    • Assist with part-time, evening courses.
    • As is reasonably required by the HOD: Maritime Studies & Survival Centre.

    Competencies

    • Language proficiency: English (lingua-franca of the sea)
    • Sound interpersonal skills,
    • The ability to work with semi-literate and semi-numerate learners, where applicable
    • Good planning & organizational ability,
    • Computer literacy, e.g., Microsoft Office suite (inclusive of PowerPoint)
    • Competent Swimmer (lifesaving/rescue diver)
    • Proficient in small boat handling Fast Rescue Boat training – would be beneficial.
    • To be able to cope under pressure.
    •  Knowledge/experience of working offshore (Oil & gas) with helicopter operational experience.

    3 x Lecturer: Applied Legal Studies

    Job Purpose

    To teach Law as a fundamental subject on various programmes in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences and as a core subject in the Department of Applied Legal Studies, curriculate the Law content in the various programmes, conduct and publish relevant research, foster community engagement and perform related administrative tasks. 

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Minimum Requirements:

    • An LLM degree
    • A minimum of two years’ full time experience teaching Law as a fundamental or core subject at a higher education institution

    Recommended:

    • Proven experience in curriculum development of Law as a fundamental or core subject
    • Current knowledge of and/or experience in paralegal education and practice at a higher education institution is strongly recommended.
    • Experience in curriculum development and teaching of Mercantile Law and/or Accounting and/or Information Technology on a law programme would be an advantage

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Academic development
    • Preparation and lecturing of various Law subjects as a fundamental on the various programmes within the Faculty of Business Management and Sciences
    • Preparation and lecturing of various Law subjects as core subjects on the undergraduate programme in the Department of Applied Legal Studies, such as, but not limited to a range of Mercantile Law-related subjects
    • Curriculum development, review and implementation
    • Design interventions for students at risk
    • Reviewing of assessment methods, implementation of evaluation system in compliance with CPUT policies, assessment, moderation and quality assurance
    • Perform administrative duties to advance the academic enterprise
    • Develop alliance with professional bodies and other stakeholders, establishing partnerships, engaging in community enhancement
    • Produce research outputs in the form of articles published in accredited journals and prepare funding applications
