    Legal Advisor

    Requirements

    • Legal qualification (essential)
    • Admitted attorney or advocate of the High Court.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ post admission experience.
    • In-house legal counsel experience is an advantage
    • Experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare or regulated industry will be an added advantage
    • Sound working knowledge of South African commercial, regulatory and labour laws.

    Key Job Outputs:

    Legal Advisory & Risk Management

    • Provide timely, practical and solution-oriented legal advice to business in line with applicable laws and best practice
    • Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks, escalating matters where appropriate
    • Maintain awareness of ongoing legal risks, legislative developments and relevant court decisions, and proactively advise stakeholders thereof
    • Analyse legislative and regulatory developments impacting business and provide clear guidance on compliance
    • Conduct or facilitate training to business on various legal developments
    • Prepare or source publications on interesting relevant legal developments
    • Assist with managing the Intellectual Property portfolio on behalf of the group

    Contract Management & commercial support

    • Draft, review, vet and negotiate a wide range of commercial and regulatory contracts
    • Ensure contracts and agreements are appropriately amended, updated and maintained
    • Support contract lifecycle management and compliance with internal governance requirements
    • Develop, source and/or update templates  

    Litigation & External Counsel Management

    • Manage and oversee litigation matters, including briefing and liaising with external attorneys
    • Assist with investigations, dispute resolutions and response to complaints
    • Assist with monitoring external legal spend and ensure matters are managed effectively  

    Project Management & Operational Support

    • Actively participate in and support legal and cross-functional projects
    • Manage multiple matters simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met
    • Assist with the allocation and management of work via the Legal Helpdesk  

    Policy, Governance & Compliance

    • Assist with the formulation, drafting and vetting of internal policies and procedures
    • Ensure policies comply with statutory, regulatory and governance requirements
    • Assist with maintaining and managing the organisation’s intellectual property portfolios 

    Employment and Labour Matters

    • Assist with providing support and advice to the business on all employment, labour relations and industrial relations matters.
    • Manage and support disciplinary processes, disputes and other employment-related matters
    • Participate in and support wage negotiations and collective bargaining processes
    • Represent Company at the CCMA, Bargaining Council, and other dispute resolution forums  

    Stakeholder management (internal & external)

    • Partner with internal stakeholders, including Heads of Departments, to provide effective labour and employment advice and support
