    Maintenance Manager

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

    • The primary responsibility of the Smelter Maintenance Manager is the asset and infrastructure management, maintenance, and successful implementation of maintenance projects within the Smelter facilities, associated infrastructure and process equipment – all within approved schedules, timelines and budgets.
    • The Smelter Maintenance Manager directs and manages the plant maintenance staff, programs and processes, typically under direction of the Smelter operations manager, to ensure safe, optimal, timely and efficient operation of all plant machinery and equipment
    • As such, the Smelter Maintenance Manager provides functional, technical or process leadership. The organisation will depend on this person's management of multiple discipline teams.
    • Further, the Smelter Maintenance Manager will be a member of the Company Engineering Management Team under leadership of the GMR2.1 whom, will direct the various engineering disciplines in terms of technical roadmaps, codes & practices, standards, procedures, legal requirements & compliance, replacement projects and EOM. 

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    ASSET RELIABILITY        

    • Ensure optimum levels of plant safety, availability, and plant reliability as cost effectively as reasonably practicable.
    • Ensures compliance with applicable ISO safety, quality, and environmental standards.
    • Management of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team

     COST AND PROCUREMENT

    • Manage costs by ensuring that approved annual maintenance and projects budgets are adhered to and that costing is as efficient as possible.  (Budget adherence, management feedback).
    • Work with Procurement and Supply to perform administrative duties such as obtaining quotes, source parts, spares and equipment for general maintenance and all projects that occur in the Smelter area.
    • Ensuring cost efficiency and accuracy of components and add technical input where required. 

     ENGINEERING AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT  

    • Manage process optimisation by ensuring that all processes are running efficiently, and that planned maintenance is carried out on equipment and machinery- optimal processes, minimal machinery and equipment failure, user feedback
    • Continuous improvement of systems and processes by identifying and solving problems, developing action plans, implementing new ideas and measuring efficiency- Action plans, reduction in failure reports, management feedback and staff feedback.

     SHEQ MANAGEMENT

    • SHEQ management ensuring that equipment, machinery, people and products are protected from risk and harm. Identify hazards promptly and take action. Adhering to all legislative requirements. (SHEQ manager feedback, manager feedback, no LTI's, near miss reporting).
    • Design and produce value adding, relevant reports for management such as incident feedback reports, costing report, training reports, projects feedback reports.  (Timeous, accurate reports, management feedback).
    • Train staff competently on the certification for lockout procedures, permit procedures, emergency response and operational procedures
    • Competent staff, management, and staff feedback
    • Effectively manage the employees within the Smelter Maintenance structure through performance management, implementation of performance development plans. Have a succession plan to ensure business continuity in the events of the loss of critical and scarce skills. Manage the discipline and behaviours within the department to ensure the effective and efficient provision of service to customers and the organisation- No labour disputes or unresolved disciplinary matters related to performance and delivery to customer. 360-degree report.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

    • Preference will be given to candidates that possesses a tertiary qualification degree, diploma or national certificate in Business Management or related qualification.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a Government Certificate of Competency.
    • Preference will be given to candidates that completed a Trade test or have 10 to 15 years practical experience in the Automation/Instrumentation/ Electrical fields/Mechanical fields.

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
    • Has Project management experience
    • Is computer computer literacy in MS office and SAP.

    • Analytical reporting writing skills.
    • Fault finding skills
    • Risk assessment skills
    • Contractor management skills
    • Negotiating skills
    • Computerised maintenance management systems.
    • Preference will be given to candidates that have medium voltage switching and PLC/ SCADA experience.
