    Business Overview

    This is a busy, fast paced operation which offers many challenges and opportunities for the right person. This position is based at Boksburg, Gauteng.

    Job Purpose:

    To plan, co-ordinate, manage and report upon the work activities of the team providing effective communication, leadership, motivation, training and development. To direct, co-ordinate and plan the operation through effective scheduling of orders, planning of all  loads. Ensure that all contractual KPI targets are achieved and maintained in accordance with the Service Level Agreement. To work in conjunction with the Supervisors to monitor, develop and allocate work to ensure that plan is executed as per KPI.

    DSC _ SHEQ Specialist

    Job Purpose:  

    Execute health, safety, quality and environment plans and processes to provide employees a safe and healthy work environment. Implement health and safety frameworks and standards, ensuring compliance and adherence to internal and external safety standards, quality standards and relevant regulations. Recognize and mitigate potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices and working conditions within the workplace and external environments Undertake inspections of grounds, facilities, and premises, analyze, and suggest corrective measures to reduce the risks of injuries and job-related threats. Draft reports and conduct investigations on job-related injuries and fatalities, quality non conformities and determine measures to avoid any recurrence Prepare and examine records of workplace injuries, illness and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies.

    Conduct investigations for accidents, identify cause for accidents with management and health and safety regulatory authorities and prevent their recurrence.     Movement of palletised stock according to requirements of the operation. Movement of stock using the SCAN-MOVE-SCAN Process. Pick stock accurately and efficiently. Ensure safe movement of stock between locations. To assist with stock take and cycle counts. To perform on time service delivery accurately. To always maintain integrity of the company at all times whilst enduring customer service is at the highest standard and that losses to the company are kept to a minimum.

    Manager: Facilities: Africa

    Role Outline

    The role is responsible for all activities related to warehouses and offices' layout  -  including the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, fire prevention systems, automation equipment, shelf/rack units, heating and cooling system, hydraulic ramps etc and material handling equipment leased onsite. It also has to take care of controlled temperature systems for specific goods (e.g. pharma) and implies the preparation of technical specifications, metric calculation and cost evaluations. Part of the responsibilities is  the management of all third parties suppliers of this area, as well as site inspections. The role has a very specific competence and knowledge of processes and site requirements. Close collaboration with Real Estate function for fit out check for a new facility and support building release to the Landlord. 

    The responsibility of this role covers, in general, the governance and organization of all the technical activities (eg layout drawings, metric calculation, contract requirements, cost evaluations, material handling equipment requirements) and the maintenance activities. 

    The role has to manage directly and indirectly where applicable “technical staff including Material handling equipment champions" checking all third parties suppliers of this area, as well as site inspections. Closely cooperation with

    • Real Estate function for fit out check for a new facility and support building release to the Landlord;
    • Procurement for tender organization,
    • Finance to control and checking maintenance costs 4) Accelerated digitalization team to bring technological up-to-date solution to facilities and 5) Material handling equipment supplier.

    Key areas of responsibility include:

    •  Supporting the Site Facility Management Team                            
    •  Responsible for the preparation and checking of maintenance contracts                     
    •  To be a strong consultant for all kind of technical needs, problems and feasibility studies supporting the BU Colleagues 
    •  Coach and drive BU staff during all works related technical plant installation and maintenance    
    •  Understand warehouse/office layouts and drawings, merging technical requirements by Country Laws, CRE, and DSC Security/Safety/IT.  Example: Collaborate with IT to better understand their proposed LAN infrastructure, rack / AP position and how it fits into the supplied drawing and possible impacts on other operational needs.                                 
    •  To analyse and optimize the implementation and maintenance of technical systems         
    •  Supply guidance to GBS Procurement Dept with regard to facility related  tenders, appointment of suppliers and needed service level agreements.                                
    •  Support the risk consultants in cooperation with GBS Risk Dept                    
    •  Support Site Teams in the management of facility management risks and mitigation plans and the proactive communication of these risks to limit business exposure                            
    •  This role must ensure all sites have generated a Preventative Maintenance Plan (PMP) and related budget which must be managed accordingly.                                 
    •  Prepare technical requirements in compliance with Country Laws and control good result of interventions ("maintenance world")                                 
    •  Support all the BU colleagues during site inspections and construction surveys            
    •  Collaborate with CRE to check buildings for the best negotiations with Landlord            
    •  Collaborate with RES in case of venturing

    •  Serve as the point of contact for the MHE supplier and perform timely escalations, negotiations where applicable and maintain a strong working relationship throughout the contract period
    •  Where applicable conduct regular performance reviews of the supplier, monitor key metrics, and address any performance gaps or escalations promptly with relationships from DHL sites
    •  Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify MHE requirements, evaluate equipment needs, and provide recommendations for upgrades or replacements
    •  Identify opportunities for material handling equipment process improvements, cost reduction, and operational efficiency enhancements in collaboration with cross-functional teams in sites
