Manager - Core Network Operations Network Technology at MTN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job:

• Advising and Leading for a future proof FTTx network and system architecture to meet business requirements of Supersonic (required timelines, budget constraints, roll out of roadmaps, operational stability and quality standards).

Key Performance Areas:

• Ensure the day-to-day stability of the network and business systems in its current form
• Be able to create opportunities to improve on the performance of the above said network and systems
• Assist with high level support functions and escalations
• Interact with up-line providers/vendors/other members of TES (MTN Technical)
• Assist with the training and up-skilling of Support staff
• Take point on current & new projects
• Contribute to the research and assessment of new FTTH technologies and systems as well as customer needs
• Lead the team towards a strategic direction in the FTTH operations space
• Ensure that sufficient network capacity is deployed with a 6-month headroom to cater for the traffic forecast
• Perform network end-to-end audits, optimization, and performance monitoring
• Record keeping of technical details on network design, implementation plans and capital projects
• Determining the planning/design policies for the network and IT systems
• Need to be up to date with IT technical and architectural developments in the ISP application set as needed by Supersonic.
• Constantly review design and drive optimisation changes
• Lead the team in terms of network optimisation requirements to ensure optimised use of assets and optimum performance
• Provide provision of detailed documentation for build and network operations
• Continuously strive to identify and eliminate non-contributory expenditure
• Act as technical representative in strategic Sales/Technical/Solution meetings
• Communicate actively throughout Network Group
• Adhere to the delegation of authority as determined by SM, NWG 
• Equipment selection within the boundaries of the Procurement policy 
• Use own discretion when no procedures or specifications exist
• Critical to be able to manage own time

Network Optimisation & Performance 

• Perform on packet switch end-to-end audits, optimization, and performance monitoring 
• Framework methodologies, plans, policies, and procedures for 2G/3G/LTE Packet Switch Operations 
• Record keeping of technical details on network design, implementation plans and capital projects 
• Lead in the new product development process 
• Track and report on performance problems and performance improvements on division level 
• Create frameworks and lead investigate performance issues and identify changes required on division level 
• Review design and drive optimisation changes 
• Lead the team in terms of network optimisation requirements to ensure optimised use of assets and optimum performance 

System and Application Optimisation & Performance 

• Maintain the technical health, performance, availability and health for the Supersonic business systems
• Ensure that all application diagrams, documentation and changes are documented and up to date
• Be the custodian of the application roadmaps and the maintaining there-off
• Ensure that the system / application maintenance and overall health including backup, restore and disaster recover procedures and plans are documented and tested and done as per industry practice 

Communication and Co-ordination 

• Create frameworks and improve methodologies, procedures and processes both in the Network and Business System environments
• Provide provision of detailed documentation for build and operations 
• Be a subject matter expert on packet switch network operational issues by studying global trends and networking with other professionals in this field, and by providing documented recommendations to various internal departments 
• Continuously strive to identify and eliminate non-contributory expenditure feeding back to Senior Manager 
• Be the single point of contact for all packet requirements regarding interdepartmental requirements

Minimum Requirements  

Education:

•  Minimum 3-year relevant degree/diploma 
• CCNA 
• Linux + 
• Network +
• A + 

Experience 

Minimum of 5 years in an ISP environment, with the following experience:

• 3 years working with “next-gen” networks, 
• 3 years working with consumer voice and data equipment
• Execution of a Network Operation management role. 
• Experience working in medium to large organization
• Working with both Wired and Wireless solutions
• Experience and exposure to ISP business systems
