    Marketing Director: Bakeries

    • You combine your strategic marketing leadership with a focus on commercial astuteness for specific categories. You play a crucial role in influencing your category value chain to drive brand growth and profitability through strategic initiatives.  You are involved in analysing market trends, understanding consumer and shopper behaviour and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize category value propositions and enhance brand visibility with the aim of driving category growth, increase market share and maximise profitability. Demonstrates strong technical expertise to translate market and consumer insights into feasible R&D strategies, while delivering high-impact marketing projects through strategic leadership, disciplined execution, and effective collaboration, and provides thought leadership that guides innovation, inspires teams, and shapes future business direction. Takes full ownership of end-to-end marketing delivery and demonstrates strong generalist capability across strategy, execution, insights, and commercial management.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    Strategic Leadership & Execution

    • Develop and execute integrated business plans aligned with corporate ambitions and growth strategies, ensuring commercial impact across market share, volume, value, and profitability.
    • Translate category and consumer insights into actionable strategies that shape brand positioning and drive market differentiation.
    • Create an environment that enables cross-functional teams to ensure effective execution of category plans, fostering collaboration between marketing, sales, operations, and finance.
    • Balance long-term strategic objectives with agility in execution, adjusting to dynamic market conditions.

    Category & Portfolio Management

    • Optimize the category portfolio, ensuring strategic brand positioning and alignment with evolving consumer needs.
    • Manage product lifecycle decisions, recommending innovations, enhancements, or discontinuations based on market trends and commercial impact.
    • Integrate agency partners effectively, ensuring brand-building strategies align with execution excellence.

    Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Lead, inspire, and develop high-performance teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.
    • Drive cross-functional collaboration with finance, sales, supply chain, and external agencies to ensure seamless strategy execution.
    • Influence senior leadership by providing strategic insights and business recommendations.
    • Leadership and Team Development -Ability to develop, lead and coach teams whilst fostering a culture of innovative thinking and continuous improvement.
    • Strategy & Mix Development – Ability to create and execute winning category/ portfolio strategies that translate into tangible business impact.
    • Agency Partner Excellence – Proven ability to manage and optimize external partnerships for brand-building success.
    • Consumer & Customer Intimacy – Deep understanding of consumer needs, shopper behaviour, and customer dynamics to drive category growth.
    • Data & Insights Transformation – Ability to translate complex data into strategic insights that inform decision-making.
    • Communication Skills - Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to strategically influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Value Chain Appreciation and Influence – Holistic view of the business value chain, ensuring marketing strategies align with commercial objectives.
    • Creative Thinking - A proven record of iterative thinking to develop business and marketing solutions that resonate with consumers and drive category growth.
    • Commercial Acumen - Strong understanding of the category P&L levers, and pricing strategies and overall business operations for decision-making which drives category growth.
    • Digital Proficiency - Digital expertise (i.e. understanding digital channels, data analytics, E-Comm, online retailing, SEO/SEM, social media, Martech) to craft effective marketing strategies, engaging consumers and driving overall category growth.
    • Demonstrates robust technical proficiency and effectively synthesises market trends and consumer insights into viable research and development strategies.
    • Delivers high-impact marketing projects through strategic leadership, disciplined execution, and strong collaboration.

    Consumer & Market Insight-Driven Decision Making

    • Leverage data analytics, consumer insights, and shopper behaviour to shape category strategies.
    • Utilize data and digital storytelling to create compelling narratives that influence internal stakeholders and external partners.
    • Apply value chain appreciation to optimise marketing strategies across the end-to-end business model.

    Commercial Acumen & Financial Stewardship

    • Apply commercial acumen to inform pricing strategies, margin management, and demand forecasting.
    • Provide strategic guidance on promotional investments, ensuring effective resource allocation and return on investment.
    • Influence customer and trade strategies, ensuring alignment between brand-building initiatives and in-market execution.

    Innovative & Digital Marketing Excellence

    • Drive creative problem-solving to unlock category growth opportunities, leveraging digital marketing, E-commerce, and MarTech solutions.
    • Optimize communication channel planning, ensuring marketing effectiveness across traditional and digital platforms.
    • Lead brand storytelling in the digital space, ensuring strong consumer engagement and conversion.

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE:

    Key attributes and competencies

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree in Marketing or a related field; MBA advantageous.
    • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in cross category FMCG marketing with a strong focus on brand building and strategic planning.
    • Proven experience in leading successful marketing initiatives that drive sustained category growth and enhance brand equity.
