Medical Specialist: Grade 1 to 3 Neurosurgery (Neurospine)
Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Neurosurgery.
Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professions Council in respect to foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Neurosurgery.
Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professions Council with respect to foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Neurosurgery.
Minimum Educational Qualification:
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist in Neurosurgery.
Duties:
Participate in Divisional under-graduate and post graduate activities. Supervise and train medical staff in neurosurgery with particular responsibility for spinal surgery.
Participate in integrated care of patients in the Acute Spinal Cord Injury (ASCI) Unit with the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. Provide support for the Neurosurgical spine Firm at Groote Schuur Hospital, responsible for clinical service provision and registrar training in Spinal Surgery.
