    Network Engineer

    Job Purpose

    • To provide the technical skills to support the optimal management and operation of all Data and Voice communication related infrastructure in the production environment as well as providing infrastructure-facing support processes to facilitate delivery of ICT Services through a Service Management System for managing of tickets for IT service requests and IT service outages as recorded or logged via all service channels.

    Education and Experience

    • National Diploma/Advanced Certificate (NQF 6)  in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering Light Current, with 2 - 3 years’ experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, of which 1 - 2 years at a knowledge worker level.

    ALTERNATIVE#

    • Senior Certificate (NQF 4)  and 5 years related experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, of which 1 - 2 years at a knowledge worker level.

    Minimum Functional Requirements

    • A 3-4 years practical experience in a Network Operation Centre or IT Operations environment, with 2 - 3 years in IP routing and switching experience; and CCNA certification. Proficient in the following technologies: Technical Knowledge of Routers, Wi-Fi Access Points, Switches; LAN Cabling, Voice Gateways, Protocols, Network Management Systems. ITIL Foundation Certification.

    Job Outputs:

    Process

    • Accumulate information and provide reports with recommendations applicable to area of specialisation.
    • Apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
    • Communication of situational interpretation and judgement of work outputs and queries in area of specialisation.
    • Correctly apply policies, practices, standards, procedures and legislation in the delivery of work outputs.
    • Effectively plan and schedule own activities to continuously improve quality and service delivery in area of specialisation.
    • Execute process and procedural change, implement the change and provide guidelines and support related to new requirements as a result of the change.
    • Provide specialist input through the investigation of opportunities for operational and process, product and risk optimisation.
    • Use practical and applied knowledge and situational judgement to arrive at decisions.
    • To be responsible for managing the co-ordination, configuration, installation, and management of single network types (WAN, LAN, wireless, satellite, telephony, internetworking) and related client services within the network enterprise.
    • Makes recommendations in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning.
    • Ensures that there is a stable performance environment for the network communication infrastructure.
    • To be involvement in incident management activities on a daily basis.
    • To be involvement in problem Management to identify root cause analysis.
    • To execute network troubleshooting to resolve technical problems.
    • Conduct advanced network monitoring.
    • Participate in change management interventions, where required.
