    New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) - Lecturer / Senior Lecturer

    The Incumbents Will Be Required To
    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Participate in a formal development programme aimed at strengthening their aspirations and skills as researchers and lecturers;
    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
    • Mentor and supervise postgraduate students;
    • Conduct collaborative research in their research specialisation areas;
    • Play an active role as academics, nationally and internationally;
    • Complete their PhD studies in instances where these have not yet been completed;
    • Assume limited administration responsibilities in their departments.

    Lecturer
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A Master’s degree with a 70% average mark in the relevant discipline;
    • Illustrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level;
    • Illustrate strong potential to become an established researcher.

    Senior Lecturer

    • A relevant doctoral degree;
    • Proven teaching experience;
    • Proven record of publications;
    • Proven record of supervision of postgraduate students to completion.
    1. For Physiology: A Master’s degree in Physiology or relevant discipline / A Doctoral degree in Physiology or relevant doctoral degree.
    2. For Architecture: A Professional Master’s degree in Architecture OR a five-year BArch and a relevant Master’s degree / A Doctoral degree in Architecture or related field and an interest in the Departmental research focus area of Memory, Legacy and Identity.
    3. For Mercantile Law : A Master’s degree in Insurance Law or a related Mercantile Law field, preferably with Insurance Law as one of the modules or subject fields covered / A Doctoral degree in Insurance Law or a related Mercantile Law field, preferably with Insurance Law as one of the disciplines covered.
    4. For Augmentative and Alternative Communication: A Master’s degree in AAC, Early Childhood Intervention, or relevant allied health discipline e.g. speech therapy or occupational therapy / A Doctoral degree specialising in AAC, Early Childhood Intervention, or related allied health/disability field. Registered with the HPCSA.

    Recommendations

    • Good communication skills;
    • Interpersonal- and mentoring skills;
    • Leadership potential;
    • Experience in interdisciplinary, collaborative research;
    • Proven record of national and international teamwork;
    • Some first author publications in peer-reviewed journals
    • One-year teaching/tutoring and research experience at undergraduate/postgraduate levels (lecturer)
