Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as Professional Nurse and Midwife.
A basic post qualification with duration of at least one year, accredited with the SANC in Child Nursing Science.
Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
Experience:
A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC. At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the Paediatric department, after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification in Child Nursing Science, accredited with the SANC. Inherent requirements of the job: Perform after-hour and weekend duties in order to assist the Matron or night manager as the need arises.
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Good communication and writing skills. Principles of Management: leadership, supervisory, problem solving, conflict resolution, interpersonal, and communication skills. Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to: Labour relations, nursing legislation, related legal and ethical nursing practices and framework, and relevant to the Department of health and public sector policies and protocols. Human Resources and Financial Management. Computer literacy in MS Office. Appropriate knowledge of General nursing and the relevant speciality. Ability to function independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
