The Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely administration and processing of client payrolls, while ensuring that all payroll information is handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable legislation, company procedures and departmental standards.
The role requires someone who can take ownership of their assigned payrolls, communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, identify discrepancies and actively contribute to improving departmental processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll processing – Runs accurate, on-time payrolls across a portfolio of client accounts (monthly, weekly, bi-weekly and ad hoc), managing each client's employee data, changes and inputs independently while ensuring consistent quality across all of them.
Statutory compliance – Manages statutory submissions (SARS PAYE, EMP201/EMP501, IRP5/IT3(a), UIF, SDL, ETI, COIDA) across multiple client entities, each potentially with different requirements, deadlines and risk profiles.
Client service – Acts as a direct point of contact for client payroll queries, translating technical payroll matters into plain language for non-payroll clients, and managing turnaround times across several client relationships at once.
Teamwork – Works within the Payroll Team at GAS, sharing knowledge and workload visibility so client deadlines are met even as portfolios shift between team members.
Quality & accountability – Takes ownership of assigned client payrolls end-to-end, since errors affect external clients (and their employees) directly rather than an internal department.
Process improvement – Looks for ways to standardise and streamline processes across a multi-client portfolio, reducing manual work and error risk at scale.
Requirements:
Matric (Grade 12)
Diploma or Certificate in Payroll Administration, Accounting or a related field (advantageous)
2 - 4 years' end-to-end payroll experience
Previous experience in an outsourced payroll environment preferred
Experience using SimplePay or a similar payroll system
Practical experience with SARS eFiling, uFiling, EasyFile and Statutory submissions
