    Job Description

The Recruitment Team is searching for a professional Payroll Manager who would be based at their Westville offices. The position will be situated within the Group Services Division and reports to the HR Shared Services Executive. The role will be responsible to provide HR services to several business units that are geographically distributed across the country. These services would include managing, directing and controlling the processing of various payrolls and all other payroll related duties to ensure the accurate and timeous payment of more than 9 000 employees. Key to the above deliverable would be the professional leadership of a team of 20 staff based at both the Westville offices and the business units across the country. In addition, the successful applicate would join the HR Shared Services leadership team which is responsible for the delivery of a broad basket of HR services to the whole of RCL FOODS.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • A relevant 3 year tertiary qualification.
    • 8 years’ payroll experience of which at least 3 years should be at a managerial level.
    • A proven track record of professional leadership skills.
    • In depth knowledge of HR/IT systems (preferable SAP), accounting procedures, employment and tax legislation is essential.
    • Advanced computer literacy and experience ideally including excel at a super user level.
    • Valid Code EB drivers’ license.
    • Willingness to travel.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    Payroll Framework Formulation-

    • Draft and implement payroll administration and control policies and practices.
    • Conduct an annual cost analysis of the organizational structure.

    Payroll Management and Control-

    • Coordinate and manage the entire payroll function, including calculation and terminations of payment and reconciliations of bonuses and payroll tax, to ensure processing deadlines and control requirements are met.
    • Manage the administration, calculation, payment and reconciliation of all superannuation contributions and third party payments.
    • Manage the preparation and reconciliation of monthly general ledger payroll journals and payment summaries.
    • Drive the development and update of payroll reference manual for managers and oversee system upgrades.
    • Liaise with relevant HR persons regarding appointments, terminations, conditions of service etc.
    • Ongoing checking and auditing all payrolls to assure compliance with policy and legislation.
    • Manage projects as required to drive continual improvement and standardization of operations and systems.
    • Manage the printing, distribution and collection of payslips.
    • Oversee the safeguarding and preservation of payrolls in accordance with legal requirements.

    Leadership-

    • Lead direct reports within the team applying the RCL standards of leadership.
    • Manage staff activities, ensuring service levels are met and protocols are adhered to.
    • Manage staff leave and general time management issues in line with organisational deliverables and standards.
    • Setting of performance standards and targets aligned to the broader HR function, conducting regular performance reviews, annual appraisals and career development discussions.
    • Coach and mentor staff to ensure their growth and development.
    • Deliver on succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders and specialists.

    Payroll Analysis, Specialist Advice and Reporting-

    • Provide detailed and precise reports to illustrate payroll-related trends, predictions and relevant strategies including forecasting inputs.
    • Analyse and interpret key payroll data on a monthly basis and management information on a daily basis to ensure targets are being met.
    • Provide reports and information in support of internal reporting.

    SAP HCM System Management-

    • Manage the integrity of the SAP HCM system in conjunction with the IT team ensuring implementation of upgrades, patches and notes.
    • Ensure necessary UAT is completed and signed off and all ITGC requirements are meet.
    • Contribute towards the development and execution of HR technology strategies.
    • Oversee and monitor system security.

    Project Management

    • Participate in project teams established to deliver on HR/IT projects.
