    Principal/Director, FX Trader

    The Role Responsibilities

    Strategy

    • Reporting to the Head, FX, Africa
    • Increase FX trading revenue by taking on risk-calculated position in the FX Spot, Forward and Swap markets in Africa
    • Work in conjunction with the Asset-Liability Desk to effectively manage liquidity, minimize cost and take on opportunistic positions to benefit the Bank
    • Work to ensure sustainability of the Macro Trading business in the line with the evolving regulatory environment
    • Pro-actively manage costs
    • Support the Onshore and Offshore Financial Markets Sales desk in increasing merchant volumes and customer base

    Business

    • Position Standard Chartered Bank to be counterparty for price making in the FX Spot, Forwards and Swap markets in Africa.
    • Ensuring that there in close coordination between onshore and offshore sales desks and the trading desk, in an attempt to increase merchant flow and take on profitable trading positions.
    • Focus on building client relationships along with the FM sales team by way of joint calls, market update and developments with an objective to increase TPI and sustainability
    • Assist the FX Sales desk expand its client base by providing competitive pricing and market information to assist them in providing superior advisory services

    Processes

    • Aggressive focus on engaging existing and new local and international counterparties by liaising with counterparty Financial Market Traders, Traded Credit Risk Management and Financial Institutions Team.
    • Work closely with the respective countries Financial Institutions Relationship Managers and TCRM team in implementing request for limited enhancement and information request.
    • Liaising with interbank counterparties, FX brokers, Reuters, Bloomberg and key markets participants to promote the Forward and Swap markets and Standard Chartered Bank.
    • Authority to commit the Bank for the sale and purchase of FXRC instruments within approved delegated trading limits in order to maximise earnings for the Bank.

    • Proactively assist in the activity of other desks to develop a better overview of the functioning of Global Markets which will help build on technical skills and knowledge to take on leadership capabilities as and when the opportunity arises
    • Actively work towards improving the Bank's engagement objective and build a transparent and collaborative culture.

    Risk Management

    • Learn understand and implement the banks risk control policies, procedures and culture to be in a position to ensure that every trading decision taken in line with the group and department set standard.
    • Maintain and strengthen the risk control culture and understand policies and procedures and closely follow them
    • Implement the international and local set regulatory framework and ensure zero tolerance to non adherence
    • Undertake in-house and external learnings on a continual basis to ensure awareness of recent developments and changes

    Governance

    • Adhere and promote an environment where compliance with internal control functions and the external regulatory framework is a central priority of the business
    • Establish, maintain and supervise the framework to ensure business functions comply with internal policies, procedures, codes and applicable external laws and regulations and adhere to the expected high standards set out in the FM Code of Conduct

    Provide leadership in Financial Markets in South Africa to comply with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. Understand and ensure compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines including those governing securities activities, company laws, anti-money laundering, terror financing and sanctions; the Group's policies and procedures and the Group Code of Conduct. Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
