Description:
A vacancy currently exists for a Principal Planner at Garden Route National Park (GRNP), Regional Office, to provide a professional planning and environmental service to the GRNP in accordance with corporate policy, approved environmental management plans, appropriate norms, standards, and procedures. The successful candidate will report directly to the Regional General Manager.

The remuneration package includes an all-inclusive cost to company salary, based on the scale of a position with a Paterson D2 job grade, allowances, and benefits as specified in the HR tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.

Requirements:
- Bachelorâs Degree Town & Regional Planning and or/ Environmental Studies
- 6 years relevant experience Local Provincial or National Governments, Consultancy or NGOs
- Management, Report writing, Planning, and Leadership Skills.
- A sound knowledge of the NEMPA Act and other relevant legislation.
- Valid EAPASA Registration essential
- Valid SACNASP Registration (optional)
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
- To have a working knowledge of relevant Environmental legislation such as NEMA: Protected Areas Act, Biodiversity Act, Integrated Coastal Management Act, Marine Living Resources Act, and other relevant environmental legislation.
- Driver's license is essential.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other relevant legislation.
- Good communication, writing, conflict resolution, and liaison skills.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure that Park Planning is addressed in municipal integrated plans and spatial development frameworks.
- To comment on EIAs, Municipal Land Use Planning By-Law and OSCAE applications in Park buffer zones.
- To ensure environmental and heritage issues are adequately addressed within Park operations, e.g. EMPs, EIAs, and Heritage approvals required.
- To ensure that operational decisions and advice are based on scientific information and best practices.
- To assist Park and regional management in keeping abreast of planning, environmental, and heritage legislation.
- To assist with Park expansion and land consolidation initiatives and strategies.
- To disseminate information to all relevant park personnel regarding development decisions and impacts.
- To provide input to the establishment of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and concession developments within the park.
- To provide a project management service to Parks.
