Principle Specialist: Energy Support at Vodacom

Role Purpose

• To create and manage the implementation of energy strategies across all OPCOs according to Vodacom’s guidelines and energy ambitions.

Your Responsivities Will Include

• Drive the creation and evolution of the energy strategy and guidelines across all OPCO’s.
• Provide project management support on the rollout of energy projects ensuring the delivery of projects according to strategic requirements.
• Evaluate market initiatives to identify best practices for incorporating energy strategy evolution.
• To assist in the measurement and verification of the performance of energy savings initiatives
• To manage and monitor energy infrastructure including but not limited to grid power, solar, batteries, generators, and alternate energy sources.
• Management of vendors and engagements with stakeholders on energy-related roadmaps to support the energy strategies across all OPCOs.
• To assist with feasibility studies and cost estimates for new solutions including renewable energy technologies.
• Drive the standardization and optimization of energy infrastructure and deployment processes across all OPOs.
• Support in the design and execution of preventative and corrective operations and maintenance of energy infrastructure.
• Prepare business cases for key energy initiatives.
• Engage vendors and other subject matter experts to derive innovative ideas that will drive energy efficiency across all OPCOs to support the Vodafone global greenhouse gas program.
• Monthly & Adhoc reporting related to energy performance & initiatives.
• Where required, perform cost-benefit analysis associated with specific technical scenarios and trials under consideration.
• Design and scope generators to include the highest efficiency engines.
• Strategically incorporate and select equipment that could potentially be converted to more sustainable energy sources in the future.
• Select switchgear to avoid GHG emissions, i.e. vacuum breakers vs. SF6.
• Design circuits to incorporate additional energy sources.
• Scope new builds for renewables.

The Ideal Candidate For This Role Will Have

• Matric/Grade 12 is essential.
• Minimum 3-year Technology Degree/Diploma or an equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in energy infrastructure and operations, preferably in the Telco, Industry.
• In-depth knowledge of telecommunications networks and infrastructure (Essential)
• Experience in analysis and technical investigations, and research in the telecommunications Industry.
• Proven experience in negotiation and management of outsourced operations is essential.
• Commercial awareness appreciates the importance of revenue achievement, margin control, and ROI whilst maintaining excellence.
• Experience in interacting with OpCo’s in Africa would be most advantageous.
• Experience in large-scale network engineering roles is essential, preferably to have been within a mobile network environment.
