    Professional Engineer (Production Level): Road Programme Development, Ref No. DOI 78/2025 R1

    Job Purpose    

    • The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent Engineer to perform all aspects of varied innovative and complex engineering activities that result in progress in technology and engineering applications. 

    Minimum Requirements    

    • An appropriate Engineering Degree [B Eng/BSc (Eng)] or relevant qualification; Three years post qualification engineering experience required; Compulsory registration with ECSA as a professional engineer; A valid code B driving licence.

    Key Performance Areas    

    • Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges and improve efficiency and enhance safety:
    • Plan, design, operate and maintain engineering projects; Develop cost effective solutions according to standards;
    • Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology; Develop tender specifications;
    • Ensure through evaluation that planning and design by others is done according to sound engineering principles and according to norms and standards and code of practice; Approve engineering works according to prescribed norms and standards; Human capital development:
    • Ensure training and development of technicians, technologists and candidate engineers to promote skills/knowledge transfer and adherence to sound engineering principles and code of practice; Supervise the engineering work and processes; Administer performance management and development; Office administration and budget planning:
    • Manage resources and prepare and consolidate inputs for the facilitation of resource utilization;
    • Ensure adherence to regulations and procedures for procurement and personnel administration; Monitor and control expenditure; Report on expenditure and service delivery; Research and development: Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures;
    • Research/literature studies on engineering technology to improve expertise; Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering-related matters; The following will be advantageous: B Eng/BSc in all Engineering fields will be considered with relevant work experience;
    • Exposure of asset management principles, technical methods, financials, systems and techniques; Experience in the implementation of strategies and policies related to the management of road infrastructure; Exposure of human resource, supply chain and contract management; Experience in financial motivation or project preparation for funding requirements; Advance experience in the use of Microsoft Office, Asset Management systems, GIS and other software /databases programs HDM4, dTIMS, IQMS; Further studies or courses.

    Remuneration    

    • Grade A: R 879 342 - R 938 061 per annum; Grade B: R 990 669 - R 1 067 235 per annum; Grade C: R 1 127 100 - R 1 323 267 per annum (Salary willbe determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescript).
