  • The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is a department of the Government of the Western Cape, responsible for providing public healthcare to the population of the Western Cape province of South Africa.


     

    Professional Nurse Grade 1 to Grade 2 (Specialty: Theatre)

    REQUIREMENTS :

    Minimum educational qualification:

    • Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre (R212). OR A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Perioperative Nursing. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.

    Experience: 

    • Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. 
    • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post graduate diploma in the relevant specialty. Inherent requirements of the job: Will be required to work shifts (day & night), weekends and public holidays.
    • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices in the field of speciality. Ability to promote quality through the setting, implementation, and the monitoring of nursing standards in the operating theatre. Ability to function independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Effective communication, interpersonal, decision making, conflict resolution skills, good organisational skills and the ability to function under pressure. 

    DUTIES :

    • Provision of optimal, holistic specialized nursing care with set standards and within a professional/legal framework.
    • Effective utilization of resources. Participation in training and research.
    • Provision of Support to Nursing Services. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development.
