    Quality and Standards Manager

    Job Advert Summary    

    • An opportunity has arisen for a Quality and Standards Manager at Unitrans for divisional workshops to oversee and manage the quality of workshop technical and workshop operational processes, ensuring alignment with the business objectives, statutory and customer requirements.
    • The role ensures the consistent implementation and maintenance of high-quality technical and operational standards across all divisional workshops, stores, and tyre bays. The divisional Quality and Standards Manager is responsible for developing and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and statutory regulations. This role supports workshop management in driving efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and continuous improvement, while maintaining the safety, quality, and performance of all vehicles, equipment, and personnel. Additionally, the role involves providing technical training, leading compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHERQ) standards, and promoting adherence to transport industry regulations

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Qualified Diesel Mechanic
    • 5+ years’ experience in a Commercial Vehicle workshop in a similar role
    • Valid Code 14 (EC) Drivers Licence
    • In-depth understanding of the requirements of SANS 10231 (Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road)
    • Computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Design, standardise and oversee workshop, stores and tyre bay processes.
    • Develop and communicate Workshop, Stores and Tyre Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
    • Support and lead workshop management with systems and processes to enhance management of all internal workshop standards.
    • Maintain Original Equipment Manufacturer and divisional standards in all workshops, vehicles, and equipment.
    • Remain at the forefront of Original Equipment advancements, policies, and procedures to ensure timeous implementation within divisional workshops.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with Vehicle Manufacturers.
    • Assist with Manufacturer Accreditation for divisional workshops and the annual audit of such accreditation.
    • Conduct regular audits on facilities, systems, and processes.
    • Conduct regular quality audits on parts procured and stores functions.
    • Conduct regular audits on Tyre Bay functions.
    • Conduct workshop supplier and service provider audits.
    • Random quality inspections on vehicles maintained in all divisional workshops.
    • Random quality inspections on outsourced work.
    • Technician assessments to ensure skill levels are adequately aligned with divisional requirements.
    • Minimise Repair and Maintenance cost per Kilometre by implementing LEAN principles.
    • Training and Development. Arrange and provide in depth technical training for workshop employees.
    • Continuous improvement through Smart innovative solutions.
    • Lead workshops in RTMS audits and Customer audits.
    • Actively participate in the apprenticeship programme to ensure apprentices grow and develop in line required standards.
    • Develop and audit workshop Planned Job Observations (PJO’s).
    • Develop and communicate Toolbox talks.
    • Assist with root cause analysis post any workshop comeback/incident and develop counter measures to mitigate further issues of the same nature.
    • Assist with root cause analysis and reporting for warranty claims.
    • Systemise Standard Repair Times for job costing across all workshops.
    • Create and review Technical and SHEQ checklists for all workshops.
    • Chair SHEQ meetings for all workshops.
    • Maintain the Document Library for workshop documents.
    • Support Workshop management in achieving optimum technician utilisation, productivity and efficiency across all workshops.
    • Prepare Operational Budget: may contribute towards providing information for operations to assist with budgeting requirements
    • but should not be responsible for an operational budget
