    Quality IPE Inspector

    Overview / Responsibilities
    Wood is currently recruiting for a Quality Control Inspector with extensive experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or similar sector of the industry to provide support to our Client in the execution of projects.

    Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

    • Act as an Ambassador of the company in all aspects of HSEQS & IR.
    • Participate in and encourage Contractors to embrace the HEART behavioral safety approach.
    • Manage and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with Contractor, Client, and subordinates
    • Comply with Company and Client secrecy agreements, and compliance, pertinent to the Construction Site and associated activities
    • By surveillance, ensure that supervision and construction contractors’ staff are in receipt of the latest revision Approved for Construction (AFC) drawings, procedures, specifications, etc. Ensure proper control of changes via TQ’s, ARN’s, FI’s etc.
    • Maintain a personal diary of all surveillance and inspection activities, especially noting the inspection of new activities as they start, and any changes, proposed or instructed, to the level of inspection.
    • Only use the allocated project approved QC inspection stamp to verify all QC inspections, and ensure that the stamps are returned to the responsible person upon completion of assignment.
    • In conjunction with the Inspector, and where required by design and fabrication codes, verify that welding procedures have been qualified and approved. Ensure that welding operatives have valid welder's test certificates, and that adequate welding records are being maintained.
    • Verify that reported errors, flaws or items that do not conform to specifications have been corrected, and the actions taken have been correctly recorded.
    • Monitor the distribution of technical QC information to ensure that effective action results from such information distribution.
    • Obtain in-depth knowledge and familiarity with all Project Specifications, and Quality Control procedures relating to a specific area of responsibility or discipline.
    • Provide on-the-job training for construction supervision regarding the requirements of the above procedures as and when necessary.
    • Maintain a list of quality issues encountered during the execution of the works or raised by the client. Report on their status, consequences, corrective actions taken and lessons to be learnt for future projects.
    • Identify non conformances within an area of responsibility, and inform the HOD Inspector. Ensure that the related corrective action reports (CARs’) are cleared.
    • Be aware of all Concession and Deviation Requests prior to implementation in the field. Ensure no work commences prior to formal approval in writing.
    • Monitor the transportation of materials from contractor lay-down areas to ensure materials are not being damaged through mishandling.
    • When attending a Request for Inspection ensures that the contractor provides the relevant Quality Pack for review prior to the actual inspection. Ensure Client representatives are in attendance as required, and all parties sign-off immediately after an inspection is deemed acceptable.
    • Attend weekly reviews with the HOD Inspector to discuss the status of the Quality Control Records sign-offs, highlighting any anomalies.
    • Ensure that field supervision endorse relevant QC pack drawings as red-lined ‘As-built’ with or without modifications. Modifications must be supported by official documentation such as a TQ or ARN.
    • Where required attend kick-off / Pre-manufacture meetings with the main contractor(s) and critical suppliers establish how the defined QC requirements are to be implemented.
    • Do not enter into commercial discussions with suppliers.

    Skills / Qualifications
    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of SAQCC or ASNT Level 1 inspection qualification.

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • A minimum of 5 years previous QC experience, preferably in the Petrochemical and Construction industry, together with knowledge of ISO 9001: 2008 requirements and its application in an Engineering, Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning environment.
    • It is recommended that he / she has a working knowledge of OHS Act 85 of 1993, PER and SANS 347.
