    Rail & Infrastructure Logistics Specialist - JHB

    Job Description

    You will be responsible for the short-term, medium-term, long-term planning and execution of rail, considering any constraints as well as ensuring the execution is in line with the port requirements.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Ensuring the right product reaches the port at the right time to minimise demurrage as well as coordinating the daily, weekly, and monthly rail performance
    • Owning the operational relationship with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and Third-Party rail sidings which include the submissions of the weekly demand plan
    • Managing Thungela’s equity position ensuring adherence thereof with TFR and escalate any non-adherence to Manager Integrated Planning and logistics and to the Head of ISOP
    • Ensuring Thungela contract management and governance with TFR is in line and as per contract ensuring meetings are scheduled and attended by all required parties
    • Managing Thungela’s take or pay position ensuring gaps are identified and risk are adequately managed
    • Managing the rail distribution pattern in line with Thungela’s operational requirements
    • Developing strategies to monitor and manage any rail-related penalties such as Train handling times and overloading/underloading
    • Working with operational teams to ensure that rail plan meets the production and sale requirements and the right product arrives at the port at the right time
    • Developing the Marketing policies and procedures required to adequately manage the rail planning and operational space and ensuring adherence
    • Monitoring day-to-day risks related to rail and ensure that correct measures are in place to manage the risks
    • Providing a view on rail intel intelligence to ensure Thungela’s route to port is not at risk
    • Maintaining oversight on rail intel intelligence to ensure Thungela’s route to port is not at risk and ensuring g operations and port operate at required buffer stock levels
    • Coordinating adherence to rail safety regulatory requirements at loading sites
    • Ensuring all required stakeholders are aligned with rail safety regulations requirements (i.e., Loadout teams, trucking teams)
    • Contributing to the broader business by working with other leaders and teams in such a way that it optimises the overall business results
    • Managing relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) to understand and deliver on their service needs and resolve issues optimally

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ Degree / B-Tech in Marketing, Engineering, Logistics, or related discipline (NQF level 7)

    Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the management of logistics preferably in the mining or manufacturing industry
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a rail operations environment
    • Supply Chain experience (Logistics, Transport, Planning) preferably within a complex industry environment
    • Experience in coal logistics, quality and stockpile management
    • Experience in marketing in a rail environment (advantageous)

    • Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013
    • National Railway Safety Regulator Act, No 16 of 2002
    • National Road Traffic Act, No 93 of 1996
    • National Ports Act, No 12 of 2005
    • Advanced knowledge of rail logistics, including working with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR)
    • Proficient understanding the marketing and metallurgy value chains, financial concepts and appropriate risk management.
    • Proficient knowledge of data analysis and reporting techniques, processes, and tools
    • Emerging knowledge of contract negotiations and contract management
