    Reliability Engineer

    Job Description    

    • Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience for an Reliability Engineer role, which is based in Wadeville. 

    Key Duties & Responsibilities    

    Reliability Program Development & Implementation

    • Develop and implement plant reliability strategies in line with corporate standards and asset care frameworks.
    • Lead initiatives to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and lifecycle management.
    • Identify and address chronic equipment issues using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., RCA, 5-Whys).

    Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement

    • Conduct Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEAs) and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) for high-impact breakdowns and recurring failures.
    • Monitor, analyze, and report key reliability metrics (MTBF, MTTR, failure rates).
    • Implement engineering solutions to eliminate repeat failures and reduce unplanned downtime.

    Maintenance Strategy Optimization

    • Define and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance routines.
    • Lead planning and integration of condition monitoring technologies (e.g., vibration, thermography).
    • Ensure alignment of maintenance strategies with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations and plant performance data.

    Support Maintenance Planning & Execution

    • Guide and coach Maintenance Planners in effective job planning, scheduling, and backlog management.
    • Validate maintenance work instructions and spare part strategies.
    • Review maintenance effectiveness and adjust plans accordingly.

    Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Work closely with the Head Office Reliability Manager to align reliability initiatives and share learnings.
    • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Safety, and Engineering teams to support cross-functional improvements.
    • Provide input on asset design and selection during new projects and modifications.

    Systems & Reporting

    • Utilize relevant CMMS tools to analyze trends, generate reports, and track improvements.
    • Ensure data integrity of asset registers and maintenance master data.
    • Report reliability performance and lead weekly/monthly reliability review meetings.

    • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
    • Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
    • Equipment downtime (unplanned)
    • Preventive Maintenance compliance
    • Reduction in repeat failures
    • Spare parts usage efficiency
    • Reliability improvement project completion rates
    • Skills, Experience & Education    

    Education

    • BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
    • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent certification (advantageous)

    Experience

    • 5+ years of engineering/maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably FMCG or beverage)
    • 3+ years focused on reliability, maintenance planning, or asset care
    • Experience with predictive maintenance tools and technologies
    • Familiarity with CMMS systems

    Skills

    • Strong understanding of maintenance engineering principles
    • Skilled in RCA, FMEA, and RCM methodologies
    • Proficiency in data analysis and performance reporting
    • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques and tools
    • Solid understanding of equipment lifecycle management
    • Ability to coach and lead technical teams in best maintenance practices
    • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and reporting software
