Research Assistant Crop Protection (Three (3) Years Fixed Contract) (Roodeplaat)
Performs routine greenhouse and laboratory activities under supervision.
Assists in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated HR resources, if applicable.
Adheres to work plans and provide verbal and written feedback on work activities to supervisor.
Utilises equipment, tools, and materials.
Adheres to financial administrative controls.
Provides research support, diagnostics and other services.
Collects data under supervision.
Adheres to quality standards.
Visible compliance with Human Resource policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
Grade 12 (NQF 4) plus 3 years relevant experience in Crop Protection.
Or Grade 10 (NFQ 2) plus 08 years relevant experience in Crop Protection.
Relevant experience in soil sterilization, cultivation and maintenance of crops in greenhouses for pathogen inoculation trials or disease indexing.
Relevant experience in greenhouse sanitation practices and laboratory aseptic techniques.
Relevant experience in laboratory related work on microbes (isolations, purification, preservation, microscopy, etc.) and/or plant viruses (preparations of plant material for extractions, basic molecular work, etc.).
Experience in field trial management will be an added advantage.
Understands and adheres to Good Laboratory Practices and quality standards.
Manages plants in greenhouses (propagation, planting, maintenance, harvesting, disease scouting, etc.) and follows sanitation procedures.
Perform growth media and buffer preparations.
Perform basic microbial work and sample collection and processing under supervision.
Valid drivers’ license will be an added advantage.
