    Research Associate - Durban

    Overview of Duties

    • Develop a project plan in collaboration with the Peer Navigators, Social Scientists, the AHRI Principal Investigators and any other social science leads using the principles of Implementation Science.
    • Initiate, lead and manage interdisciplinary projects and initiatives for implementation research to generate the evidence needed to inform policies and guidelines for implementing or scaling up innovations for transition readiness for young children infected with HIV, and who are currently on ART.
    • Incorporate innovative approaches to scientific investigations by adapting and/or developing original concepts and ideas for new, existing and to further implementation science research.
    • Develop new and apply existing concepts, theories, tools, and techniques in the area of implementation and evaluation research specifically in the virtual care settings. 
    • Contribute to and deliver projects conducted by the Health Implementation Science Team promoting the uptake of evidence-based solutions into routine care practice.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A PhD or MBChB in a relevant field such as health services research, medical/clinical sciences (medical doctor/clinician) public health, implementation science, or equivalent.
    • A valid driver's license with a minimum of two years driving experience.
    • Valid HPCSA registration.

    Minimum Experience

    • A minimum of 5-years' post community service experience (grade 2 medical officer).
    • Experience in specialized Pediatrics and the clinical management of PLHIV and CLHIV.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Implementation Science methods with application to innovations to improve point of care and patient health outcomes.
    • Familiar with methods to optimize data collection and use of patient, staff and clinician feedback to improve health [e.g., strategies for addressing patient/organization/system-level challenges to collecting data or feedback and/or use of informatics to support interventions and processes.
    • Familiar with patient engagement methods to advise and improve treatment planning including joint decision making.
    • In-depth knowledge of quantitative and qualitative scientific methods including design of data collection instruments and data analysis, using the selected IS theory, model or framework to serve as the key component in driving improvements in care.
    • Knowledge of information systems (e.g., CDS, EMRs, PHRs/patient-portals, RPM, and/or other health technologies) and methods of patient-reported outcome implementation, adoption and integration to improve healthcare.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Implementation Science methods with application to innovations to bring about improvements to patient care programmes.
    • Familiar with methods to optimize data collection and use of patient, staff and clinician feedback to improve health [e.g., strategies for addressing patient/organization/system-level challenges to collecting data or feedback and/or use of informatics to support interventions and processes.
    • Proven industry/research experience supporting health and research programs with experience in implementation science research.
    • At least 5 years’ experience as an HPCSA registered independent practitioner. 
    • Advantageous
    • Experience in clinical trials.
