Assist with laboratory activities related to Molecular Biotechnology.
Supporting DNA fingerprinting services for external and internal clients.
Plan and coordinate own work activities aligned with project plans.
Accurately record, capture, and interpret experimental data.
Maintain laboratory equipment and assist with inventory management.
Assist the Senior Research Technician and research team with general laboratory activities such as keeping the lab clean.
Provide supervision and mentors postgraduate students and research assistants. Understands management of co-workers and mentees.
Disseminates technology through peer-reviewed newsletters, oral and poster presentations, etc.
Participate in training and developmental opportunities to improve technical skills.
Assist with the procurement processes from SCM.
Compliance with human resource policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.
Requirements
National Diploma Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
Minimum of 3 years applicable experience in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
Practical knowledge of basic molecular biology laboratory techniques such as plant DNA extraction, PCR, and the use of SNP markers for plant genetic analysis.
Willingness to learn new techniques and follow protocols.
Basic skills in interpreting laboratory results and reporting skills under supervision.
Ability to assist with setting up experiments and preparing reagents, buffers, and laboratory consumables.
Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
Ability to assist with the maintenance of laboratory records and stock taking
