    Research Technician-Genomics (Roodeplaat)

    Description

    • Assist with laboratory activities related to Molecular Biotechnology.
    • Supporting DNA fingerprinting services for external and internal clients.
    • Plan and coordinate own work activities aligned with project plans.
    • Accurately record, capture, and interpret experimental data.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and assist with inventory management.
    • Assist the Senior Research Technician and research team with general laboratory activities such as keeping the lab clean.
    • Provide supervision and mentors postgraduate students and research assistants. Understands management of co-workers and mentees.
    • Disseminates technology through peer-reviewed newsletters, oral and poster presentations, etc.
    • Participate in training and developmental opportunities to improve technical skills.
    • Assist with the procurement processes from SCM.
    • Compliance with human resource policies and procedures.
    • Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.

    Requirements

    • National Diploma Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
    • Minimum of 3 years applicable experience in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
    • Practical knowledge of basic molecular biology laboratory techniques such as plant DNA extraction, PCR, and the use of SNP markers for plant genetic analysis.
    • Willingness to learn new techniques and follow protocols.
    • Basic skills in interpreting laboratory results and reporting skills under supervision.
    • Ability to assist with setting up experiments and preparing reagents, buffers, and laboratory consumables.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
    • Ability to assist with the maintenance of laboratory records and stock taking
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite especially Excel.
    • Valid driver’s license will be an advantage.
