Description
- Assist with curation of the National Collection of Mycology with activities to include, but not limited to, sorting, labelling, slide preparation and preparing loans of specimens.
- Provide support with preparation and processing of material in the molecular analytical laboratory
- Provide basic administrative support to staff in the National Collection of Fungi
- Assist with procurement of research materials and project related items
- Ad hoc tasks such as of setting up equipment and preparing materials for courses, exhibitions etc.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (or equivalent / RPL)
- Five years relevant experience in the field of Natural History Collections and laboratory work
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Attention to detail is essential
- Valid code B & EB driver’s license

Description
- Keep record of quarterly asset count and recording of newly acquired assets.
- Continuous management of asset verification process and keep register for the movement of assets and fully completed assets movement forms.
- Manage departmental assets effectively, efficiently, economically.
- Conduct on-going asset verification, identification of obsolete, redundant and damaged items ensures write off and disposal.
- Conduct monthly asset spot checks, ensure that asset register is updated and kept accurate.
- Update the fixed asset register on the system with relevant information.
- Update and reconcile the inventory control sheet by agreeing to the fixed asset register.
- Ensure documents are properly filed and stored in a safe place.
- Assist in resolving audit queries on assets, ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assist in preparation of quarterly and yearly asset disclosure note.
- Compliance with relevant prescripts such as SCM policy and Asset Management plan.
- Determine safety of all assets, monthly.
- Regular inspections to check safety in buildings Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
- Do follow up on all OHS decisions.
- Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with Accounting as a major subject.
- One (1) year relevant job experience.
- Knowledge of administrative processes or asset management.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Driver's license.

Description
- Prepare and submit winning project proposals in collaboration with other scientists to research funders.
- Conduct independent research on greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes from the Agriculture, Forestry and other Land Use (AFOLU) sector
- Conduct technology transfer activities related to carbon management in the AFOLU sector contribute towards development and updating of climate services for the agricultural sector.
- Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, newsletters and other media.
- Mentor junior research staff and students/interns.
Requirements
- PhD in Agrometeorology / Meteorology / Agriculture / Environmental Science.
- Proven ability to conduct and supervise greenhouse gas emissions research.
- The candidate must have a proven research background in agriculture and climate related disciplines.

- Track record of attracting externally funded research projects.
- Ability to work with communities.

Description
Asset Register Management
- Maintain a complete and accurate asset register.
- Capture asset details (description, serial number, cost, location, custodian, barcode, etc.).
- Ensure assets are correctly classified (capital vs. inventory).
- Update the register for acquisitions, transfers, impairments, and disposals.
Asset Acquisition & Capitalisation
- Verify supporting documentation (invoices, GRNs, approvals).
- Ensure that assets are correctly capitalised in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., GRAP).
- Confirm the correct useful life and depreciation method.
Safeguarding & Control
- Tag and barcode assets.
- Conduct regular asset verification and physical counts.
- Investigate missing or damaged assets.
- Implement internal controls to prevent loss, theft, or misuse.
Asset Movement & Transfers
- Process inter-departmental transfers.
- Update location and custodian details.
- Maintain signed asset handover forms.
Disposal Management
- Facilitate disposal processes (auction, donation, recycling, write-off).
- Ensure disposal is approved in line with policy and PFMA requirements.
- Remove disposed assets from the register.
- Record gains or losses on disposal.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with:
- Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
- Treasury Regulations GRAP.
- Prepare asset-related reports for management and auditors.
- Assist during internal and external audits.
Reconciliation & Financial Reporting
- Reconcile the financial register with the verification register.
- Support preparation of Annual Financial Statements.
- Provide supporting schedules for audit purposes.
Policy & System Management
- Develop and update asset management policies and procedures.
- Administer and maintain the electronic asset management system.
- Train staff on asset control procedures.
Risk & Governance
- Identify asset-related risks.
- Recommend improvements to internal controls.
- Support consequence management where losses occur.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma in Financial Management / Accounting/ Logistics/ Internal Auditing/ Public Administration.
- Three (3) years of asset management experience with one (1) year at a supervisory level.
- Proficiency in NetTrace or another asset management system
- Proficiency in SAGE or another financial system.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
- Ability to apply GRAP standards in asset recognition, measurement, and impairment

- Assist with laboratory activities related to Molecular Biotechnology.
- Supporting DNA fingerprinting services for external and internal clients.
- Plan and coordinate own work activities aligned with project plans.

- Assist the Senior Research Technician and research team with general laboratory activities such as keeping the lab clean.

- Participate in training and developmental opportunities to improve technical skills.
- Assist with the procurement processes from SCM.

Requirements
- National Diploma Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
- Minimum of 3 years applicable experience in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant breeding or Genetics.
- Practical knowledge of basic molecular biology laboratory techniques such as plant DNA extraction, PCR, and the use of SNP markers for plant genetic analysis.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and follow protocols.
- Basic skills in interpreting laboratory results and reporting skills under supervision.
- Ability to assist with setting up experiments and preparing reagents, buffers, and laboratory consumables.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
- Ability to assist with the maintenance of laboratory records and stock taking
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite especially Excel.
- Valid driver’s license will be an advantage.
