    Researcher (1505)

    The successful candidate for the researcher position will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Conduct research and publish, participate in research projects, as well as work closely with the Director towards advancing the research focus areas of the GELC
    • Facilitation of learning, primarily at postgraduate level
    • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
    • Academic and general administration
    • Curriculum development and assessment
    • Community engagement
    • Manage the GELC social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and assist with the updating of the webpage
    • Assist with the organisation of webinars, seminars, conferences and public lectures

    Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Requirements for the position:

    • LLM or equivalent in the field of environmental law

    The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment:

    • Registration for and progress with a doctorate in the field of environmental law
    • Evidence of supervision experience at LLB or Masters level
    • Teaching experience at LLB or Masters level
    • Evidence of peer reviewed research publications
    • Evidence of successful grant applications (including study) and project management
    • Knowledge in legal research methods and pedagogy in environmental law

    In addition:

    • Submit a cover letter detailing your suitability for this position, a CV with a list of publications, and 2 reference letters on the UWC Career Portal
    • The application must include a research and publication plan aligned with the GELC research areas for at least 2 year

    Competencies required:

    • Ability to liaise with stakeholders in government, academia and civil society.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a multicultural environment 
    • Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to dynamic work circumstances 
    • Ability to develop manuscripts for publication in accredited, high impact journals 
    • Experience in organising and facilitating online and face-to-face academic events.
