Manage the legal requirements and duties of 2.17.1 and 2.17.4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act
Lead / participate in site safety inspections and over inspect the Safety Officer inspections
Compile Safety Superintendent month-end report and oversee incident investigations through identifying accidents that deemed to be investigated and ensure that these investigations are conducted according to the Seriti Investigation procedure
Report review and final sign off high potential incidents and injuries
Co-ordinate and participate in safety audits or Operations / Services Department
Review classification of injuries
Monitor and manage implementation of Seriti and Regional Safety and Risk related standards at the Operation
Provide leadership for the safety team, reviewing data for leading indicators and adopting strategies to address identified undesired trends
Liaise with external auditors when utilized and review final report and sign off
Maintain baseline and issue-based risk assessments
Evaluate requirements of departmental staff, ensure that individuals are provided with the correct development opportunities, evaluate training courses as well as oversee the development of training material
Responsible for timeous and accurate Safety and Risk reporting to relevant internal stakeholders and external authorities
Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, and operational standards and requirements
Implement effective risk management processes and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure adherence
Manage and maintain the Document controls & Governance system
Ensure that costs allocated for safety tasks within specified operation are controlled within the prescribed budget
Control capital expenditure for improvement programmes
Requirements:
National Diploma in Safety Management
BSc / BTech in Mining / Engineering / Safety Management or a related field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience Mining or Technical professional with relevant Safety training and sound performance record inclusive of 3 years in middle management position
Computer Literacy (MS Office)
Valid driver’s license
In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
