    Section Manager Processing

    Job Description:

    As our Section Manager Processing of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    Safety, Health, and Environment

    • Consistently apply Safety and health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
    • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
    • Provide an environment for on-site teams to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without repercussions.
    • Collect and summarise the specific risks within the working area and implement plans/systems to avoid these risks.
    • Review and assess the impact of critical risks and monitor the effectiveness of essential controls relevant to the work area.
    • Identify PUEs and monitor critical control performance within teams.
    • Embed critical controls into the daily work practices of teams.
    • Manage Safety & Health systems within the work area.
    • Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports.
    • Assess the 'fitness for duty' of team members and take any subsequent necessary action.
    • Engage in physical safety checks, interventions, and coaching.
    • Create safety reports and manage analysis of KPIs based on available data.
    • Report deficiencies and implement plans to address shortcomings.
    • Facilitate continual safety audits to ensure all safety requirements are met.
    • Support site visits by internal and external visitors to ensure adherence to site safety systems (including induction).
    • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments, and closed-out of Safety Actions.

    Performance and Delivery

    • Develop and oversee production plans to meet production targets efficiently.
    • Ensure planning for all processes is in place to achieve daily and long-term targets, including loading and railing final material to Saldanha. Address links of the production chain (from a global perspective) to ensure optimum results and resource allocation.
    • Implement strategies to optimise iron ore processing for maximum efficiency and product quality.
    • Manage all resources, i.e., human resources, equipment, and materials, to ensure smooth, cost-effective operations.
    • Ensure the iron ore processing meets specified quality standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinate and oversee routine maintenance and processing equipment repairs to minimise downtime and ensure operational continuity.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and implement sustainable practices in the processing operations.
    • Facilitate effective communication between various sections' teams and collaborate with other departments for seamless overall operations.
    • Work closely with the Section Manager Plant Technical Services to identify areas for improvement in processes, technologies, and workflows to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Supply information punctually, accurately, professionally, and credible.
    • Discuss any changes from role players if needed to maintain successful relationships.
    • Develop strategic initiatives to ensure sound relations and beneficial impact on performance.
    • Monitor and manage the budget for the section, including expenditures related to production and maintenance.
    • Identify initiatives for effective cost control and savings.
    • Lead and oversee the implementation of sustainability initiatives and compliance management within the discipline, ensuring consistent alignment with sustainability expectations in stakeholder engagements.
    • Drive the integration of a purpose-led, high-performing culture within teams, embodying company values, inclusivity, and diversity through active engagement, implementation of effective team processes, reinforcement of culture through discipline-specific systems and behaviours, leadership in day-to-day communications, and the implementation of robust employee and contractor management processes.
    • Ensure comprehensive compliance management within the work area, encompassing adherence to external local requirements, Anglo American compliance standards, and governance protocols.

    This role is in the Processing (PRO) Department on a Band 6.12 (D4/D5) level reporting to the Manager Processing

    Qualifications:

    • B Engineering or BTech in Metallurgical/ Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or equivalent on NQF7
    • Honours Degree: Metallurgical Engineering or related field (NQF8) Advantageous 
    • SA Drivers Licence

    Technical Knowledge

    • 6-8 years of relevant metallurgical experience in plant design and operation, beneficiation technology optimisation, and technical input for producing saleable products.
    • Knowledge of chemistry (For non-chemists: the chemistry principles, its applications, and the value it adds to related sub-disciplines for non-chemists.
    • Proficiency in research methodologies and conducting studies.
    • Technical knowledge of process evaluation, plant audits, feasibility studies, and ad hoc projects.
    • Understand project management standards and techniques.
    • Proficient in mineralogy (For non-mineralogists: an awareness of Mineralogy, its applications, and the value it adds to related sub-disciplines for non-mineralogists.)
