As Senior Data Engineer you will be responsible for driving, designing and building scalable ETL systems for a big data warehouse in a highly scalable environment to drive the highest return on data. This position will be based in Cape Town and will report to the Head of Data Systems
If you join us, you’ll
- Continually enhance and maintain our existing ETL frameworks in line with agreed design patterns and internal governance standards to improve our EDW product offering and to remain scalable
- Design and implement ETL pipelines
- Ensure highest data quality assurance through regular and in-depth review and testing of work
- Mentor, lead and develop junior staff to ensure work of the highest quality
- Create easily understandable technical documentation that are kept up to date

What you’ll need
- A relevant business or IT degree/diploma
- Solid experience and understanding in designing and developing data warehouses according to the Kimball methodology
- Adept at design and development of ETL processes
- Strong SQL development experience, preferably TSQL or PSQL
- SSIS experience including the ability to ingest/output CSV, JSON and other flat file types
- Experience in MS SQL Stack – SSIS/ SSAS/ SSRS
- Programming experience in Python or C# would be preferred. If not, the willingness to learn Python is a requirement
- AWS Redshift, Aurora DB (advantageous)
- Experience in Amazon Web Services (advantageous) - specifically working with SQS/SNS/Lambda etc.
- Experience within financial services and / or mobile money industry or a start-up environment
- Experience of IT Governance, Project Management methodologies and QA standards
- Take a technology agnostic approach to solution design
