    Senior Engineering Manager - Musina

    Job Description:

    Venetia Mine requires an engineering manager (a 2.13.1 appointment) to provide competent engineering leadership and input to activities associated with site assurance and readiness, construction, and project commissioning as we transition the mine from its current open pit to underground operations.

    Reporting to the Senior General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the direction, development and co-ordination of all engineering activities on site. 

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    Zero Harm

    • Pursues and drives a culture of zero harm on site through a meticulous focus on health, safety, environmental and security strategies.
    • Ensures that all aspects of the site and work is completed in adherence to the Project Safety, Health and Environmental Plan and the De Beers Safety, Health and Environmental standards and systems.
    • Aligns all project SHE requirements and standards with the Venetia Mine strategy, thereby ensuring a single focused approach to on mine SHE management.

    Business/ Financial/ Professional/Technical/ Operational Results:

    • Direct and lead the implementation of systems, policies and procedures to ensure adherence to legal requirements as well as organisational engineering, safety and environmental standards.
    • Lead and manage the implementation of engineering deliverables on time, in budget and at the right quality.
    • Provide technical leadership and input on engineering matters to minimise engineering risks.
    • Build sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that planned work is carried out efficiently.  
    • Day-to-day management of activities on site, including contractors and subcontractors.
    • Lead and manage the development, utilisation and motivation of human resources for the discipline to ensure a competent succession pipeline to meet project requirements.
    • Lead and manage the VUP / VOP integration strategies vis-à-vis, staff, equipment, systems, etc.
    • Lead and coordinate operability and construction design reviews.

    Leadership Results:

    • To provide input and advise the Company on construction issues pertaining to design, scheduling, cost saving measures and potential construction problems.
    • Protects the interest of the Company, by ensuring that construction risks such as delays, damages, defects, regulatory compliances are pro-actively managed and resolved.
    • Develops and maintains a culture of delivery and ensures an environment of excellence through all delivery channels.
    • Build and sustain productive working relationships with contractors designing and executing the work on site.

    Qualifications:

    Education & Experience

    • Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
    • At least ten years practical experience on operating mines and/ or in a project environment as an appointed engineer with engineering management experience.
    • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines and Works.
    • Construction, maintenance and engineering knowledge experience.
    • Contractor Management experience.
    • Underground experience
    • Shaft sinking knowledge and experience.
    • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) (advantageous).
    • Operational Risk Management Programme (ORMP) training.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:

    • A methodical approach, good analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Good Planning, Organisational and negotiation skills.
    • Leader and strong team player.
    • Communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals, e.g. construction managers, quantity surveyors, subcontractors, architects, designers, other engineers, etc.
    • Project engineering, construction and management experience.
    • Advanced knowledge of technical risk and maintenance management.
    • Advanced understanding of the application and implementation of mining, safety and environmental legislation.
    • Integrity – maintain a high ethical standard both personally and professionally.
    • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
    • Innovative and proactive, with strong personal and interpersonal skills.
