    Senior Investigator Enforcement Department

    Purpose of the Role:

    • To lead and conduct complex regulatory and forensic investigations within the financial sector, including financial markets, insurance, collective investment schemes, hedge funds, pension funds, and financial advisory and intermediary services. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing investigations from initiation to enforcement, providing technical guidance and support to investigators, ensuring the quality of investigative outputs, and contributing to the overall effectiveness, productivity, and performance of the Enforcement Department.The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager: Enforcement.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Lead and conduct complex investigations in terms of the Financial Sector Regulation Act, including evidence gathering, analysis, and reporting.
    • Assess complaints, referrals, and new matters, and determine the appropriate regulatory response.
    • Develop and manage investigation plans, priorities, timelines, and case progress.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to investigators to ensure high-quality investigations and reports.
    • Review investigative work, evidence files, and reports to ensure compliance with legal and departmental standards.
    • Prepare, draft, and present investigation findings, recommendations, and enforcement matters to internal decision-making structures.
    • Drive enforcement actions, including debarments, administrative penalties, directives, and licence suspension or withdrawal recommendations.
    • Maintain accurate case records, management information, and performance reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, governance requirements, and confidentiality obligations.
    • Identify opportunities to improve investigation processes, operational efficiency, and departmental performance.

    Other Key Competencies:

    • The successful candidate must demonstrate strong investigative, analytical, report-writing, leadership, and decision-making skills. The candidate must be able to manage multiple complex matters, mentor investigators, present cases confidently, and perform duties independently, impartially, and with the highest levels of integrity and professionalism. The ability to produce concise, well-supported investigation reports with properly analysed and cross-referenced evidence is essential.

    Requirements

    • LLB, BCom, B Degree in Forensic Science and Technology, Forensic Accounting, or an equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum of 10 years' experience in litigation, prosecution, forensic investigations, forensic accounting, regulatory enforcement, or a related field.
    • Admitted Attorney or Advocate will be an added advantage.
    • Sound knowledge of financial sector legislation, administrative law, investigation methodologies, and the law of evidence, including documentary and electronic evidence.
    • Proven experience in conducting complex investigations and preparing investigation and enforcement reports.
